I think Varberger still makes the same design in Sweden. Exactly the same, but has 3 locking lugs, not 6 like in Kongsberg (or was it vice-versa?).

Varberger/kongsberger is a rifle/concept/company that has been forwarded from hand to hand and is currently ones again closed for buisiness.

The filed for bankcrupcy som time ago.

However the rifles are good, especially the good ones are really great.

Just try the rifle out, it it fits and shoots then so be it.

The story of the company could fill a book.

Best regards Chris

Please excuse me and Faina if we write in Italian, but is faster for us and easier.

Fammi sapere.

bye

Thank you Stefano,
of course I can't live without this gun!!!!!
Saturday I'll drive in Lecco to see the gun and if it's ok I'll buy this.
Now I have a Steyer Pro Hunter, (I buy this used 3 weeks ago!!!). But I don't like this why have too much plastic, stock without a serious recoil pad give for me too much recoil.
Prefer a classic good walmut stock with recoil pad.
I'll you say you if I buy this nice rifle....

I *think* the Kronsberg may have been sold in the UK as the Lakelander a few year back?

Looking at this pic of the Kronsberg 393 off the net, it certainly looks very much like the Lakelander

It was very nice "clasic" looking rifle, which when it functioned correctly, shot very well indeed.

However, it seemed that quite a few people who bought these rifles complained that they developed a variety of problems..There was a lot of drawn out debates in the old Stalking Magazine regarding them..This could be why the company has had problems staying solvent?

A guy I stalked with had two Lakelanders..one in .243 and later, one in 6.5x55mm.

Both developed problems...the .243 win simply last accuracy for no apparent reason and also had issues with the safety catch..The replacement 6.5x55mm also had problems of one sort or anther to the point I think he lost confidence in the rifle, and traded it in for something else..

Regards,

Pete

The Kongsberg 393 is considered one of the most accurate production rifles available. It is a favourite with the accuracy nuts and has no need for "blueprinting" as it is perfectly straight from the factory. The barrels are also of very good quality.

It has some design features that some shooters dont like. A blind magazine combined witha a magazine-unloading-button is not everyones cup of tea. Also, the magazine is not conventional but more like the Krag-Jørgensen type, except its top loaded.

After the Mauser M98 I consider it the second best bolt-action design ever made.

Tordenskiold

Do you know if the Kongsberg 393 has a conventional recoil lug, or does it have something a bit more unusual?

Regards,

Pete

Pete.
First...I have no technical knowledge of the Kongsberg 393 rifles at all, but it seems like they are still in production at the Kongsberg Small Arms factory at the city of Kongsberg Norway.

Kongsberg is a famous (at least in Norway) arms factory, wich have been in business for a loong time. Like the bird Phoenix it has risen from the ashes over and over again Smiler

Among many different rifles and shotguns, they also made Remington Rolling Block Rifles on licence at the turn of the last century, as well as Colt M1911 pistols later on.

The 393 rifle has a very good reputation here, especially regarding accuracy, and it´s still listed on several gun shops.

Sorry I cant help with more exact info, but I find very little on the internet about Kongsberg Small Arms
