For the Austrian members (or others with knowledge).. A friend of mine might be able arrange for hunting in the Steyermark (Styria?) region of Austria through some people he knows. Don't know much yet, but it was said to involve roe deer and boar. Can anyone tell me about this area? What kind of hunting is possible in this region? For all I know this might be a very big region, so maybe I need more information first. Just thought I should pop this out and see what the responses are.. I don't know much about Styria, but, having crossed it a couple of time by car, I can say it's a wonderful place, with plenty of coniferus forests and glades, certainly an excellent place to hunt; I remember a lot of highseats, a good sign for sure. You might check the website. http://www.verwaltung.steiermark.at/ Unfortunately it's in german language only... P.S. Now I recall that an acquintance goes there almost every year since a long time, for red stag and chamois hunting, and he is delighted.

I have hunted Steiermark a couple of times. By all means go if you can. Beutiful mountains to hunt in and great hunting. I have hunted gams and rehbock near hieflau and Reh near gratkorn and Graz. Non of the area I was in looked like boar country but there is some wine country to the south and they probably have some boar. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

Hunting in Styria or Steiermark is an wonderful experience. Good hunting in one of the most traditional hunting grounds austrias. Very Good population of Red Deer in the nord and west of the province. Styria is also famous for Chamois and Roe deer. Some free range ibex are also in a few selected areas. Statistic says for the 2008 hunting season more than 47500 roe deer and more than 1000 wild boars where taken only in styria. Roe deer you can find in every area ( Revier ) all over the province the bigger one are in the south east of the province. Boars are more common in the south in the hills and forests close to slovenia and hungary border. Hope that helps. Seloushunter Nec Timor Nec Temeritas

Thanks for the input, guys! My first interest would be chamois and ibex, but I guess the prices on the last one is quite steep. Will try to find out more about the exact area, and post an update.
