What I find amazing is that the bear which killed the hunter in northern Sweden wasn't shot right away by the other hunters and/or police! It's standing over the hunter it killed, and is apperantly wounded in the rear leg, so there is no question about it IMO. I wonder if the reluctunce is because of our screwed up scandinavian preditor politics? Maybe the other hunters and police were afraid of being prosicuted?

The funny thing is that I overheard a very urban looking woman talking to a butcher in a meatshop today about the bear incident. Amongst other things she stated: "Well, bears aren't really dangerous to humans. They only scavenge carcasses they find in the forest...". I turned around and told her to tell that to the dead hunter, and that bears kill many moose calves during the spring and summer. She gave me a rather sour look for bursting her nice pink, fuzzy bear fantasy bubble...

I don't think we should speculate to much about this. I don't believe everything in the media. This evening some media reported the bear was found dead, but in NRK i watched a interview with a hunter that said he killed this bear! He and a fellow hunter killed the bear with 4-5 shots each.

I still believe my neighbours can be just as dangerous as a bear!

Hi hjortenjeager
I have chatted with Per-olof who was wounded by a bear in Dalarna and he told me himself how all happened.then it is not a myth and the poor guy in jokmok who was killed by a bear is not a myth neither. last year too a hunter in way to his lg pass was surprised and wounded very badly by a bear in vrmland and the bear was not wounded at all. these bears are predators and do not fear humans.
best regards
danny

I was some years ago in Dalarna fishing trout in some very nice and wild spots. I wasn't even aware that there were bear and did not find tracks, either. Realising that there might have been big predators out there, I feel a little undergunned now with the #5 flyrod and a small pocket knife I carried...

Have you heard about the recebt incident with a bear in Romania?

I meant, i do not believe every detail we get from media. It's to early to speculate why the bear wasn't shot immediately it was found by other hunters and the police.

We all know how dangerous a bear can be, but i still think it's much safer to walk in the woods than in a big city. I read yesterday about a 50 years old woman and a 8years old boy attacked and killed by a madman in Sweden. We live in a dangerous world!

A hunter which had shot the bear twice from his combitation gun first time with the 7x57r in the shoulder and second with a brenneke in the center of chest

Barring a shot to the Central Nervous system, that combo is gonna get you chewed for a while whether we speak of a Euro or North American bear. I have shot bears with my .416 and they still travel a decent distance and growl for a few minuted before expiring. I waited 15 minuted before following up my last bear and just couldn't help thinking to myself that he might still be alive if the shot hadn't been just where I thought it was. A 7x57R? Not me!

Best,

That first hunter was not hunting bear. He used his rifle in self defence.

The last bear was shot by hunters the next day. One of the hunters said "both of us emptied the rifles"

People must understand bears are not like "teddy bears" or as Disney describes them

Cheers
