Hi All,

I'm looking for a mounted lamp for the quad that I can use for single handed fox lamping. I'm often out on the quad after highseat stuff and would be able to shoot the odd fox over time if the kit was right but with a hand held lamp it is impossible to lamp and shoot at the same time.

I'd be interested in what anyone else uses.

Rgds,

FB, check out these guys:

http://www.cluson.co.uk/AccessList.aspx?CT_ID_Relate=4&CT_ID=20

They do kits for mounting lamps on top of scopes which I am sure could be used for mounting on a quad.

Hi CD,

I have the gun mount kit for the Clulite, but it makes the lamp difficult to handle as it has to attach to the front rack or handlebars, but without any height.

The two Cabelas ones are probably the best option although only one of them has a cigarette lighter power plug. I also would like a lamp that has the potential for a colour filter. I'm not sure if the Ram light has that ability.

FB,

I would suggest you give some thought to how you prove you didn't lamp the buck that you shot from the high seat in legal light. Both to the plod and to the land owners and/or other local stalkers.

It's one of the reasons I don't do this concurantly in fact it's one of the reasons I don't lamp full stop!

FB,

Which Clulite do you have at present?

Which ever, it shouldn't be too hard to rig an upright pole that attaches to the quad somewhere and then fix the lamp to the top of that...

Sounds like an evening or two work for these long winter nights,

Edited to ask if it has a shooting rail across the front? They make a huge difference and you could fit the lamp off the rail..

Regards,

Pete

1894,

That's a valid point although surely a lamp could be seen as a valid aid in locating and recovering deer shot at last night? I hadn't thought of it but it is definately worth considering.

To be honest if I only went lamping on the nights I didn't get a deer then I rekon I could still account for a few foxes... Wink

Pete I thought you might come up with a bit of a "Blue Peter" solution!!! Wink The shooting rail is actually something else I'm looking for but they are expensive here in the UK. I tried to find one on Cabelas but didn't see any.

Hey FB, don't tell me that you have not seen these....

http://www.solwayfeeders.com/productsdetail1.asp?STOCK_CODE=1321

Note that it is easily demountable - though could always double as a swift game cart rail! Smiler

I'm thinking that something welded up out of box section - and ratchet strapped onto the front rack should meet your needs.

Ian, I knew there was something like that out there, I saw the rail at a gamefair a couple of years back. just could not remember where.

FB, that looks the business.

FB,

ive got a frame called the solo rest, it attaches to the front frame on a QUAD, its so simple in design. it uses a clusen lamp and has an attachment
to hold the lamp while you lean on the frame to take a shot.
i have used it a lot in the past for .22'ing rabbits and it worked really well. as for foxes on it, it worked OK, but you just needed to get the right angle on it so you could support your elbow and the forearm. then you can hold it steady for long shots.
i have thought of attaching a small sheet of ply to the top and then you would have a good platform to shoot from and be very mobile.

i will dig it out of the shed and get some pictures in daylight so you can see what its like.

i do not know where you can get them now, if you wanted to borrow it and get someone to make one to a similar pattern your more than welcome.

failing that just get a battery pack, a scope mounted light force 140, a builders hard hat and loads of duck tape!!

Alex,

Thanks for the offer, but to be honest (As Pete and Ian will attest) my skills at making or even adapting stuff are somewhat limited!! Wink

The rail attachment looks like it could do the job, but I just think it is a little expensive. I'll have to see how the shoots' finances are stacking up at the year end.

Thanks for all the replies
