Okay, my hunt is finally scheduled. i was supposed to go in May for Roe Deer but things didn't work out. I am now leaving on the 8th of November.

I want to shoot a Roe Deer and now I am told I will be able to also shoot Fallow Deer and Wild boar.

Does this sound reasonable? This is not a fenced hunt.

I'm also looking to buy a single shot rifle over there. Is this a realistic idea?

Mickey, if memory serves, the roe buck season might well have ended in November - our Czech members will correct me here if I'm wrong. Even if the season is still open, older bucks will be very close to shedding their antlers.

Never mind, there will still be great hunting for roe (does and fawns), and the hunting for larger deer and (in particular) pigs will get better. Bring warm and quiet clothing to be comfortable on the stands! Bring good optics suited to operation in low light.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to pick up a rifle. The European Union tends to be pretty restrictive with firearms. Still, if you have good contacts, maybe it will be possible? Think about how you intend to pass the Czech border on the way out (airport)? Figure out whether you need to report and prove you have exported the rifle(s) you imported - you used to have to do this. I'm not sure what the rules are these days, the Czech Republic just joined the EU, and that probably brought on a bunch of new regulatuons.

Weidmansheil for your upcoming hunt.

I'm an American stationed in Germany. I'm going to the Czech Republic myself in December for a hunting trip; let us know how it goes.

I don't know about buying a firearm in the C.R., but I would think the biggest problem you would have is getting it back to the US. I tried to get to the Bureau of Alcohol/Tobacco/Firearms site but it was down...Gun Control Act of 1968 has lots of restrictions on importing weapons; let alone whats happened since 9-11.

There is a cheap single shot rofle from CZ. Dont know how it shoots.

You wont get a Blaser K 95 or Merkel or Krieghoff or Sabatti single shot much cheaper than in the USA. And you know from whom you bought, may check and sight it in at home...

Go hunting to Chechia and enjoy the trip.

I would go for: FALLOW DEER ( Damwild ), Sika deer, MOUFLON and boar. No Roe deer after Oct., 15th ( in Austria, but bucks will shed antlers in any country! )

Anything from .243 up will do, for big boar take this forums darling, a 9.3x62 ( in a CZ FS? )

I am not taking a rifle as I am going with a local hunting club. When I asked about availability of different calibers they just smiled and said don't worry.

Importing a rifle into the US is not that big a deal. It seems that way to Americans because we are not used to it. It is much easier than most places. It just takes time and patience.

Roe deer will not have antlers in November. In most countries in Europe the buck season is long closed by then.

I bought a CZ 550 rifle in Prague, at the CZ factory store (Opletalova street, center of city). No problem with purchase and export, if you have proper import documents for your home country.
