It has been stated many times that some European countires do not allow military calibres for deer stalking. The 7x57 is so band, is the 7x57R band? Weidmannsheil.

Hi, you can use just about anything on deer in the uk AS LONG AS the calibre and bullet weight meets the very specific legal requirements for velocity and energy. this web site gives useful info into what is and is not legal. cheers Roebuck http://www.dcs.gov.uk/bestpractice/gd_fballisticschart.htm

The 7x57R would be legal. A way around the 7x57 ban in France is to go 275Rigby.

G'day oldun, To the best of my knowledge, since the 7x57R has not been used as a military cartridge in Europe, you should be o.k. Although from memeory, some places require a certain energy level remaining at a set distance. Example, for some forms of hunting in Germany (I think?) the 7x57R isn't legal, but the 7x65R is. Anyone know any different? Cheers, Dave. Non Illegitium Carborundum. Cheers, Dave. Aut Inveniam Viam aut Faciam.

The 7x57R IS legal in France (as is the 8x57RS). The rimmed versions of these cartridges were never used as military calibers. The 7x57(R) is legal for all big game in Germany as well as in France - it exceeds the German minimum caliber requirement of 6.5mm for game larger than roe. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon...
