Hiya,

I have some Hornaday 120gr soft points that I want to load for a 7x57 as a test. Does anyone have some min/max loads for this bullet or directions to a website.

I have varget, 4831, 4350, RL15 or RL19 in hand at the moment if any of these would be best.

Thanks
K

Kiri

Try 162 Amax H4350 around 45 grains with usual start low precautions

Best of luck

It's like a slow hammer drill

With 120s Varget is hard to beat 41-44 gr. Those are conservative. If you have a modern bolt gun or a Ruger No 1, you can go higher and beat a 7mm08.
A 120 TSX can exceed 3000 fps and will kill anything you would take on with a 7x57.

K, go to the Hodgdon or IMR website -plenty of data there. I use 51.5g of imr4831 in 7x65 under 139gn bullet at that's about midpoint between min and max load. I think the 4350 might be a better powder for lighter bullets as its a bit faster burning.

Art that's handy as I have a heap of varget and need to find something to use it in. It is for use in a Mauser action that Adam had and I have just refinished the stock so I want a load to get the client out and shoot his first fallow.

I will post results this week.

Stop messing with it - you'll break it!

The tried and tested load for that rifle, achieving 1/2 MOA or better, is 46gns of Lovex AA 4350, CCI LR primer, Sierra Pro Hunter 140gn boat tail bullet in an RWS case, set at 2.506" measured off the ogive.

Don't bother with lighter bullets - the twist doesn't suit them.
