I don't think so. The European Bustard only occurs in a few localities in Spain and the Ukraine / Russian Steps with a programme to reintroduce it to other parts of its range. The only way you will shoot one is with a camera.

Another remaining small population is found in E. Germany. They even changed the highspeed train's rail to protect the last remaining individuals, at astronomical cost naturally.

They don't seem to hatch successfully because the many ravens (Corvus corax, also protected) plunder all their nests. Stupid environmentalists!

No sir, I am not. We use to have those magnificent birds in Romania, 45-50 years ago. I saw them in quite big number in Hungary in special reserve and I thought maybe some other countries will have special permit for hunting.
Now I am clear.
Thank you!

HuntRomania,

This is a bird that many Arab falconers go crazy to hunt. There are several different species, and they are available to falconers in Northern Africa and some limited places I Eastern Europe.

I also think Syria was a major location for hunting these birds.

You may have better luck if you google houbara hunting or a variation on the spelling.

I have never hunted them in Europe but I do know a couple of locations in Frica where bustards can be hunted.

Rgds,
Kiri

The bustards that Arab falconers hunt is not the same as the one we use to have in Est Europe. Can you send me some information regarding the conditions and prices from Africa, sir?
Also some pictures with the bustards hunted in Africa, please!
Thank you very much!
Marius

Marius,

I think Arjun offers Bustards in Burkino Faso IIRC.

I will dig up a link to his site. I spoke to someone at DSC that was doing a hunt there and Bustard was on the trophy list.

K

Thank you Kiri!
I saw some videos from Africa with a bustard named Kobi/Kori bustard. It is the same that lives in Burkina Faso?
If so, I would love to do a hunting trip next year, especially for this bird.

In Burkina you can hunt you the Denham’s Bustard (Neotis denhami).
It is quite common in the area.
Either as part of a big game hunt or just a rather cheap small game hunt.

The kori bustard is found in southern Africa. We see them very often on our farm in Limpopo. I've never checked if we can get permits.

I plan to take one in BF in March with Arjun. It would be a cool addition to the trophy room.

My friend hunted them in Mongolia year ago.
Shot couple of them

My main interest is Kori Bustard.
Actually, I hope i will shoot one next year if Dennis will manage to find a permit for them.
But thanks for help!
