Anyone shoot one? Ballistics seem very close .240 WBY or 25 06.

Thanks, ALeko

Ballistics are the same, the only problems are dies and brass.

Why not eh?

The 6x62 freres is balistic very close to the 240 Wby their advantage is that it is available in a rimmed version too.
As the minimum caliber for big game (red deer, fallow, boar) in Germany is 6,5mm the 6x62 Freres is very rare. I know only one hunter havig it in his "roe deer drilling". Brass and bullets are no problem.

An acquaintance had some problems to get brass in south-east France a couple of years ago, and paid them a fortune. I'm not sure but there is only one manufacturer for cartridges and brass, not a good thing IMO.

I was very interested and still am. Dies can be ordered and I have a source of brass.

The main issue is how much I would gain over my 243 and 6mm rem. In truth I think very little. 90gr should go an extra 200fps which might make an extra 25yds?

Common sense says that if one is not going to shoot bullets of under 85gr that a 25-06 is the answer. Then if 25-06 fits the bill why not a 6.5x65RWS that can be used on more big game legaly and will produce 3,500fps with 100gr bullets (according to the Hornday manual for 6.5-06 which is of slightly less capacity...)
and suffer less bore wear.

The 6x62 would no doubt be a fantastic long range roe cartridge

These are conundrums I am wrestling with at present....

I was looking at Blaser barrels for both my K95 and R93. The 6*62 seemed to fill a perfect niche to me in calibre selection. But the lack of finding brass in the US is somewhat frustrating! Yes the 6,5 x 64mm (65R) is a far superior cartridge. I would love have a 5,5x57mm RWS but I think due to logistics I may have to settle with a 25 06

Aleko,

Where there's a will there's a way. 100 pieces of brass for a 6x62 would last half the barrels life (?1200 accurate shots or so) If you really want it get it!

Oh yes I agree, I just can't find brass in the US. RWS and Norma no longer catalogue it, who else makes brass? MEN?
