I am interested in hunting this July for roe buck, males, represenative heads would be ok.
I am just looking for a good hunting experience with a quality outfitter. I would like to hunt 5-6 days.

I have hunted in Scotland but not England. Any suggestions, references or web site links would be much appreciated.

Seeker, I can't help you with suggestions for an outfitter, surely our learned UK members will help you with suggestions.

I just wanted to comment on your choice of hunting time. The roe rut starts at the end of July - most of the time. So if July is an absolute must for you (perhaps for reasons outside of the hunting sphere), make sure you can hunt as late in July as possible.

Early August would have been better, later in the rut, the bucks are much more likely to come to a call - the traditional way of hunting for roe in the rut. Around 5th-10th of August might be just about ideal.

I you happen to hunt before the rut starts (and the bucks become visible driven by their hormones), you may well have chosen just about the worst time to look for a roe buck. High temperatures and high vegetation may make the bucks just about invisible prior to the rut.

In my experence, (which is a bit limited) I've found that if you miss the rut on woodland Roe you will generally hit two very quiet weeks where the bucks do not move after the rut finishes.

A good time to get out and hunt representative animals is im May when the territories are forming and smaller bucks are bbeing moved around or bigger bucks are barking their authority.

I think I was talking to someone about this last week as it goes...

the danish roebuck hunting season(same climate) goes from 16 may to the 15 of july, and i see animals through the entire season, it is true that they are move more about in late april start may, but that shouldnt matter to much for an outfitter who knows his grounds. late july is good as well.

Theres a guy in Bristol, Andy Payne who takes out a lot of foriegn clients, have been out with him several times. Have never had an outing with him where we didn't see Roe Bucks or does. He's always got me onto the animals I wanted and is reasonable on his prices. He has a vast ammount of land that he stalks. I think he has a website.

Is only my experience of hunting with him I took a very nice Buck with him in 2007, have always found that he worked hard trying to get you the animals and have never had a failure with him.

Agreed it's not premier EXCEPT the harvest finishes so visibility is much better and there is a lot of grazing to be had which the roe often take advantage of.

The past two seasons have seen (for me) early starts (12th July) with some dead spots. A good outfitter should be able to produce something but I would treat anything prior to 15th July as risky. Prior to that also means extremely early starts and very late finishes. We are talking light at 4am and dark at near 11pm ( makes me tired just to think of it.
