Another 02 of my freinds have been turned away by British Airways due to this 72 hours notification rule.

PLEASE PLEASE NOTE they seem to be enjoying enforcing this rule and they are taking no prisoners.

If you are travelling with firearms you have to notify BA 72 hours prior to departure of your intent make serial number and pay £50 per trip and weekend is NOT counted BTW.

Nowadays, harassing hunters/shooters is commendable and politically correct.

That's been inforce since November last year... I know one person who has managed to forget it twice... both on first class tickets! once to Aus and once to SA, and to BA let him travel the next day.

Unless that has changed recently, that was not the case when I used BA a few years back; I had to give them 72 hours notice before returning from RSA...

It could very well be a case of somebody in the airline being over zealous or not knowing the rules, but to avoid all the potential hassle, I would definately notify them both ways.

Also when you do, get a full name for the person you are talking too and a direct dial extention number for them; if they decline to give this information, ask to speak to a manager. If at all possible get an email confirmation.

Also beware of simply informing your travel agent. I have heard of that going badly wrong when the travel agent failed to pass the info on BA...

Regards,

Peter

I still find virgin the easiest to fly with firearms with, and they dont charge you extra. I email them when i book to confirm that i will be taking firearms, and get a reply email which i take to the airport with me.

Qantas from london to melbourne were a complete nightmare. However, that was more to do with the touchdown in Singapore.

Last yaer I travelled to South Africa with two rifles and left them in Jo-Burg while I travelled to Capetown on B.A. but forgot about the ammo. When I got to Capetown . No Luggage. I enquired about this and was told by some stroppy bitch (probably with P.M.T.)that my bags were still in Jo-Burg because'' they ''found ammunition in them. I had to wait 5 hours for my bags to come on a non-B.A. flight I can still remember the smug look on her face and know that she really enjoyed her job.
