@Steve 64,Top_Predator:

have attached two more pics of a buck i have shot with a .30RBlaser and Hornady Interlocks, in the Nosler Partition Thread

Guess its nearly the same shot placement, only higher than ur fallow. Was an instant kill, but big exit whole .

What do u think of AccuBonds or Interbonds for the .30-06?

Due to the chemical process the core shouldnt seperate and so the bullet -theoretical- should make an exit whole even on boars, or?

cheers

Konstantin

I use a 150 gr Nosler Partition in my .30-06 on Fallow. I suspect the 165 gr Partition you used either did not expand well in the rear lung area, or the front partition blew off easily and the rear shank drilled through. The animal was able to run on adrenalin until loss of blood killed it.

A 60 metre death run is not a long way if they take off running.

hi konst
congratulations on your fallow .if that is your exit on your fallow your entrance was probably quite high if shot from a hoschitz and quite near to the liver you will never get a good blood trail with a high shot... did the deer know you where there this can make a lot of difference to there reactions i recently shot a fallow at 240 yds with 154g interbond which left a 3.5 inch exit hole through the opposite shoulder that deer ran about 60 yards i use a 7x64 and usually use swift scirrocco 150g when i can get them which poleaxes them they are not hard to kill even in the rut
regards steve

Concerning your question, Pete..The Pic is made from a high seat. Not an open one, but a closed, which we normaly call "Kanzel" or "Hochsitz". The Kanzel is concipated, that you can sleep on it (although i have to tell, it wont be my first choice to sleep there)because the Kanzel are often there to find where the game is active in the evening, night or early morning hours at places where its hard to go to without the game noticing you, which means that if u walk to the place in dark morning time you will chase them away and when sun is up you wont see any more game. That means you have to go there in the evening time and -if moon is there too for boarhunting- you sit till the next morning, so u wont stress the game and you avoid that its getting spooky.
What do u like to know further? I cant tell much about this area, because it was my first time there. As u see the forest is mostly "Kiefer" (pine?) and as my friend told me some meadows are there to find too and open fields. Game which can there be found are: roes , fallows ( good trophy ones)and wild boars, no reds.

@Hjortejeger:
I heared that most nordic hunters dont like the Silverblixt.
I have shot with the 180grs bullet aprox. 60 Boars,7 fallows and 2 Reds and aprox. 40 Roes and cant say anything bad about this bullet,sorry.Most of the shot were one shot kills.
Biggest Boar i shot with this bullet at night over a disatnce of 190meters, was a middle old male boar with arround 100Kg. Instant Kill, the projectile i could recover stucking 2cm under the skin of the "exit wounds". So it nearly managed to left the game, and shot placment was directly on the shoulder, through, bones, chest and...

A friend of mine told me about the MEGA only good things.
If i remember right my father has used the SAKO hammerhead quiete a long time, but not on boars. Guess its nearly the same fragile bullet as the silverblixt or?
BTW what means silverblixt?

Cheers and happy hunting

Perhaps i can give you some information about the Norma Silverblixt bullet. Many nordic hunters don't like because they feel it fragment/splinter too much. I guess german hunters perhaps see it a bit different? They want the deer down immidiately?
I once tested a 180grs Silverblixt in a 308win. I shot into wet telephonebooks. The retained weight was only 98grains=54.4%. And the diameter of the bullet was only 12.5mm. Not a very good result in my opinion for a allround bullet, but if you shoot behind the shoulder i think the deer will fall very quick.I would not shot to the shoulder with such a bullet.Perhaps the bullet will splinter completely before it reach the deers vital organs.

BUT Karl Henry Lundin an old swede who has shot over 1000 moose,has mostly used 30-06 with a 180grs Silverblixt .So it can't be so bad!

Sometimes a big game fall in it's tracks sometimes it can run 100 meters or more. You never know,even with a perfect shot.

Konstantin,

I think for your situation you have made the correct compromise; as you say the performance on boar is the important thing!

Is that other photo from a highseat or ground hide? Tell a little about the ground you hunt over...

A friend sent me a French hunting magazine and I was amazed at the number of deer and boar hunting books in both French and German..I only wish somebody would translate these into English!

Regards,

Pete
