American in Denmark with a Rifle

I am an American citizen who would like to hunt in Greenland (which is part of Denmark) with his own rifle. (I can rent a rifle, but I would greatly prefer not to have to do that.)

I can't get to Greenland by air from the USA, except via Copenhagen. So, for my plan to work, I will have to transit Denmark with a rifle. I know I can make official inquiries with the government of Denmark about this, but I wondered if anyone who posts here on AR might have done what I would like to do, and be able to offer some guidance.

Here are my questions, and any help answering them will be greatly appreciated:

1. Can I transit the airport in Copenhagen with a rifle on the way to Greenland? Are governmental perimits/approvals necessary? How do I go about getting them?

2. If the answer to Question 1 above is yes, can I leave the airport and enter Denmark with my rifle, and check/store it with a third party (e.g., a person or firm that is authorized to hold firearms for foreign visitors) for a week or so? My thinking is that I would then be able to travel freely (i.e., without my rifle) through Denmark and to neighboring countries, prior to collecting my rifle at the end of my sojourn and proceeding on to Greenland.

I realize that this is a bit of a long shot - if you'll pardon the cliche and the pun - but any assistance anyone can give me with these questions will be greatly appreciated.

Look up Max Hunt or Hauke Braun on google. Send him a email or call him. He might be able to tell you who to talk to in Copenhagen to see if that is possible.

He is a Dane, and has a hunting show here in Europe.

You may be able to leave it with customs, I have done that in Portugal. Making the right connection in advance was not an easy process though.

Thanks, gents. I will make some inquiries as suggested.

I have realized that this whole thing I am going through is a bit ironic.

The irony is that, if I were asked these same questions by a Dane who wanted to come to the USA, I wouldn't have a clue as to the answers, without doing a lot of homework!

The world is far too worried about guns. It's not hunters like us who are the problem. It's the criminals, and there's no chance of stopping them with restrictions of the kind that us hunters face.

Ah, well.

Thanks, again.

Hi Michael. .

Contact the police in Greenland. They can isse you an import license. Once you have that one I don't think a transit through cph will become an issue. Your outfitter on Greenland ought to get you the hunting license.

Contact police for questions and application.

Email to Greenland police:

Taking a gun to Greenland is not the issue the issue is taking a rifle through Denmark. No one seems to know how to do this! Thanks

Follow the response from Jens Poulsen, Once you have received an import license for the hunt.

I would contact a hunting store in Copenhagen, for a small service check or a drop of oil, you can then submit your rifle when you arrive and pick it up on departure, there is no problem when it is stored properly during your stay in Denmark.
