Can anyone tell me where I could source a magazine follower from a PH model 81, in 375H&H?

Trying to find one in Australia is proving to be challenging, and finding someone to send said part to Australia is also not easy.

Any advice is appreciated.

Jim

Jim,

PH's Model naming/numbering and parts cataloguing was a bit random, particularly in the latter years, so working from photos works best. If you can post a picture of the rifle and a couple of the follower and mag' well on here (or email them to Adam@athinasporting.com), I will probably be able to source one for you - I may even have a couple of magnum PH followers in my parts box, as I think the 7mmRM and .375H&H were interchangeable.

I'm a long term fan of Parker Hale rifle and currently have several in my cabinet - particularly Safari Deluxes and Wilson specials.

Regards,

Adam

Adam, I'm away from home for a few days - I'll get you the photos shortly. The follower has been bastardised previously so I'm keen to find an original. I'll send you the photos via email.

Regards

Jim

I'm pretty sure you just need a standard long-action M98 magazine follower, if the Parker Hale .270, 7mmRM and .375H&H I have here are anything to go by. Your photos will tell all.

If Brownells won't ship directly from the USA to Australia, I can order them from a supplier here and post them on to you. You're best replacing the follower spring at the same time, as the old PH ones have a tendency to let go at inconvenient moments.

Unfortunately any "gun part" such as a scope base or an action screw cant/wont be shipped out of the USA by Brownells.

Ahh, given that I don't own much American gun stuff, I hadn't realised things had got so bad shipping from the US to dangerous Axis of Evil regimes such as Australia - do you think they are worried you may invade Hawaii equipped with refurbished elderly Mauser-actioned rifles...

Never mind, without breaking any international arms proliferation treaties, I've found what I think is a suitable mag' follower and spring in the shed, so hopefully photos will confirm it.

I should note that the problem is not the companies like Brownells. Its the US Department of State. They have been very actively welding a big stick the last few years with any firearms related company, and the penalties for breaching these rules they are enforcing are significant. The dealers are very scared about breaching the rules, so follow a hard line. I emailed a small US firm last year about buying a case neck turner and was advised that they are happy to provid it, but I would need a State Department export permit.

Thank you Adam for hunting up a spare follower, but after a lot of searching, I found one 10 minutes down the road from my home.

Again, thanks for help.

Cheers

Jim

No problem - if you need one in the future, I have two of them in my spares box. Glad you're sorted.

Adam.
