What is situation regarding hunting with rifle in Spain (Sevilla and surrounding area) especially on wild boars and foxes (and coyotes or their relatives). Any restrictions regarding rifle type, calibre, are lever action permitted? Any handgun hunting?

Also, what is situation regarding handgun shooting, is reloading permitted, any restriction regarding annual quantity of powder, primers, etc. How about casting own bullets?

All above for a foreigner (outside of EU) coming to work permanently in Spain? Can rifles and handguns be imported? Any restriction regarding number of firearms?

Thanks

I lived across the bay from Cadiz until about 8 months ago.

Non-EU civillians probably won't be able to get a Gia (spanish firearm document).

NATO military members serving in Spain, IE American Military can have the same number of guns as the locals. 7 rifles, 7 shotguns, 7 air rifles, and 1 pistol. No military calibers excepting the 30-06.

Wild boar, red stags, fallow, roe deer, wolves, mouflon sheep, aoudad, four kinds of ibex, two kinds of chamois, feral goats, are all available in Spain.

I used to hunt on a estancia or finca near Seville for wildboar and they had some red stags.

It's going to cost you to hunt in Spain for big game, and probably a lot more than you had previously imagined.

Driven days are usually 500-1000 euro per weekend.

Hi, I'm one of those NATO guys that's moving near Seville. I live in Germany now and have a Jagdschein and WBK and would like to do the same there.

Are there Jagd Pachters or something similar in Spain or do I need to find a landowner?

Thanks.

Spain is a very nice place to hunt, but very expensive. I go to hunt abroad because many times is cheaper (including the cost of the trip) than here. Handloading (theorically) is permited, but in the practise you cannot find powder and primers, because the limitations to the transport of these componets are so huge (the powder transport requires almost the same security measures as the worst and most dangerous military explosives), because a canister of powder may cost 150 €, if you include the cost of the transport. Many Spanish People go to Andorra, France or Portugal to get them.
There aren't restrictions to import rifles shotguns or 22 carabines, if you request it. For Spanish people, there isn't any number maximum of hunting rifles you may own (you may own 25 or more), the number is limited to 6 shotguns and 3 .22 rim fire carabines. Handguns are very restricted and I don't know how many a foreing people can own. Semiautomatics rifles are limited to 3 rounds (2+1). Automatics guns are banned.

The unic calibers banned are the 223 and bigger than .50 (the 50 browning is banned). The 308 Win is permited but only civil ammunition (non surplus ammunition).

Thank you for the advice on the .223
I have been thinking of buying a Ruger Mini-14.

Is there a problem with an 8X57?

Layton:

No, in Spain the 6.5x55, 8x57 and the 7x57 are permitted altough in some European countries (France, Belgium) are considered war calibers. I'm not sure if surplus ammunition is permited but civil ammunition is.

I hunted on private land on non-drive days without a Spanish hunting liscense only with my GIA.

You will find that Germany and Spain are completely different.

Just forget everything you know about hunting in Germany as it won't apply.

It will be a large land owner or a goverment concession. You might be able to get a liscense through the base. I was not able to make that work, but I was able to hunt there with friends on non-drive days.

The NATO restrictions are 7 rifles, 7 shotguns, 7 airrifles, and 1 pistol. Regardless of what the Spanish can have.

You need copies of all your hunting liscenses before you get there.

Guns, and ammunition are super expensive in Spain. I paid $6000 for a Blaser S-2 that cost $4200 in Germany. A box of 300 Weatherby was $100. 45 Blaser was $80.

and 6.5x57 is right about Andorra, that's the place to go to buy damn near anything expensive, tires, guns, ammo, scopes, you name it. It's a 9 hour drive from Seville on good roads. Might be better to take the train.
