Hi guys,
most of as have more rifles. Some are old, some are brand new, some are very accurate......
But also if we have some very performing rifle, when hunting season comes we use the same (maybe old) gun in we trust. Why? Becose when it comes in critical situations our gun is like our best friend: he's even ready.
My favorite rifle is a Remington 700 BDL cal. 30'06 with Swarovski Z6 scope.
Simply a resolutive gun.

You're right Faina, I'm sure we all have a favorite. Depends on type of hunt, but for a normal hunt by myself in the seat I grab my combination Bockdrilling, Blaser BD 880, 20 ga over 30-06 and a 22 Hornet sandwiched in there, Swaro 3-12x50. Comes in handy, don't have any other pics handy, but you get the idea. If on drive hunt, have a Remington 7400 that gets the call, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Your choice of the 30-06 and the Remington 700 BDL couldn't be better. The 30-06 bolt action is my go-to rifle. I have a 700 BDL, but in 223--very nice rifle. Have you ever used the 30-06 with cast lead bullets? My 30-06 is an old soldier, a Springfield 03-A3, that is my favorite. I've put a composite sporter stock on it, an old Bausch and Lomb 2&1/2 X 8 scope, Timney trigger--it's a favoritel It's not pretty. It has that business-like look of rough men that defend nations. Like your Alpine Troops. It goes along when I hunt Prairie Dogs, and it has turned the lights out for many groundhogs. It keeps up with the 22 Hornets and the like! I use 1 standard load, a 180 grain bullet and nearly max load of IMR 4350. It will do anything I care to do.
Regards, and thanks for posting.

Mine is a Sako AV Fiberclass 30-06 with a Zeiss 3-9 Conquest.

I might switch to a 3-9 Kahles that I am taking off of a 338 that I just sold. But regardless the rifle is golden.

Dad used it on a Bison about a month ago and it was a one shot ordeal.

I have other rifles that cost much more, and I still like the Sako the best.

I want to send it to AZ to get that NP3 finish on it. And I may end up going with a 3-12x50 Schmidt and Bender some day. But that rifle is golden.

I only have three hunting-guns and i love them. Right now the superugly M98 .35 Whelen with matt black, grey-white birch stock and a 4x32 Meopta is in favour. But thats only because the Tikka .270W is without sights and the Remington .375H&H wont shoot 260 Accubonds like I want it to.

If I put the .375's scope on the .270 and go back to 300 gn Sierras we'll be a happy family again.

Difficult choice i must go for 2 that are the best in thei own class. But a Schultz&Larsen 65 DL in .358 Norma Magnum with a Meopta 3-12x56 scope on top is high up on my list.

For big game rifle a Mauser .404 is my choice there.

Faina. Many years ago my youngest daughter was given a Rem 700 in 30-06. thumb I had it re stocked for her and it has never failed. This was one beautiful elk she took with it.....sorry I did not know you back when we were in Baveno. She was with me and we would have had a grand time....it has since been re stocked and if I get a chance I will post a photo of the new look.

billinthewild, it's a very nice elk!! Your daughter shot this with a 30'06??? She shot good!! Many hunter use bigger caliber for this size hunt...
Where you shot this??? In the photo I can see nice mountains... In this moment I would like to be in the mountain, but in some minutes I need to go at work.....
This is my Rem 30'06 at hunt in '04

I have too many "favourite" rifles to pick out the one and only. However, I admit to having a sweet spot for my most used rifle, the one I instinctively go to for my regular Roedeer stalking : a Sauer 202 with barrels in 7x64 and .30-06.

I have been watching this topic and have not been sure if it was just for Europeans or everyone, so I am going to play too.

I actually have 3 "go to" rifles that I can grab and feel confident that whatever walks out will be dead. One is my "custom" Marlin 336SS 30-30, one is my Sauer 202 Outback 270 WCF, and one is my Blaser R-93 Professional Tracker 308.

And my all go to drilling.

For me, the question is greatly simplified by owning but one rifle: Winchester m/1895 cal. 8,2x53R, one of the 350.000 rifles delivered to the Russian Czar during 1916-1918.
Most of my hunting is elk, and also other split hoofed animals.

I have done some shooting with my father's TAP Lakelander 9,3x62 fitted with an excellent red dot sight but I had some problems using the bolt on the shooting range so I'm reluctant to take it to a hunt and lose wounded game because of not being skilled enough with the rifle.
Then again, I like the Win and it's never failed so why bother!

I found another nice 30-06 last night at my first visit to LL Bean in Freeport Maine.

It was the Remington CDL, as I have been overseas for 5 and half years it is the first time I had handled one.

They also had a Sako 75 with the fluted stainless barrel in 270.

Looks like I will be buying some rifles here too.

You guys have some wonderful stuff.

She's an ancient BSA Monarch chambered in .270. My first ever 'serious' rifle which my father gave to me as a boy. A clunky old girl that's accounted for more deer than i care to remember.
She was tired and battered when first given so my father and i spent all summer stripping and re-conditioning the barrel, action, stock etc before being taught to stalk deer in the winter.
20 years on and she still has pride of place in my cabinet, used occassionally for stalking and instinctively feels 'right.' I target, tactical and stalking rifles costing thousands but none compare and never will.

I guess my all time favorite is my semi-customized Husky mod 98 in 9.3x62 -tanks to boha and my gunsmith Sam Björkholm it shoots extremely tight groups and handles nicely. My first prey taken with it was a crow, the biggest an eland.

Lovely rifle!

My favorite hunting rifle is the M99F Savage .358 Win. that I bought in 1966. Its accounted for more big game than any rifle in my collection.

Its shown below with some nice Euro rifles that I have obtained more recently.

A remington model 700 from the custom shop. .375 H&H, rusted on only one side from sitting in a pool of water ... don't ask ... wooden stock broke in half a few years ago, replaces with a black/grey spider web HS Precision. Love that stock.

That thing shoots tighter groups than my customized 204 Ruger.

And a 30-06 Remington Mountain rifle that spits factory 180 Noslers into a tight little circle. What more can you ask.

Hunted with it on 3 continents, so far, taking it to the 4th continent in May. Will bring it to Europe someday (Mainly so I can say it has been to 5 continents, and then 6 when it goes to Asia.)

Those are my go-to-guns.

Hi,
I have an older BSA, it's a Viscount in 7x57, a Nickel Supra scope in Parker Hale roll off mounts sit atop it. The Viscount preceded the Monarch it has an action built to the correct length for the 7x57 with the long claw extractor as with the Mausers. Over the years a few rifles have passed through my hands some of them more expensive than the BSA but few if any have been better rifles. thumb
