I am going to build a new thumbhole laminate stock for my Blaser. Anyone have any idea how I go about laying out the thumbhole stock, or inletting this thing? I have seen some websites withs ome instruction but, I don't quite understand how much I can inlet on my own without machines. I am guessing a dremmel and some patience will do the trick?

D99, are you going to build a 1-piece or a 2-piece (which then screws onto the central receiver?) stock?? And, I assume you are talking about stocking an R93, yes?? Not pretending to know anything about stock making, but given the (assumed) R93 base for the project, I'm sure it would be a lot easier to start with a wooden stock, and the re-do the rear/front stock as required. Then you could inlet the same as the factory stock. I believe the wooden stock attaches with a screw through the buttstock. If you are aiming for a 1-piece stock, then I have actually seen such a stock made. It was even a thumb-hole model. It started out as an "Offroad", and the smith/stockmaker removed the metal insert (trigger, magazine, sear, barrel bedding) assembly from the synthetic stock. Don't ask me how - I don't know if the entire thing screws in?? He apparently also cautioned, that this was an experimental stock, and he did not guarantee the new thumb-hole (wooden) stock based around the Offroad internals would hold up under use. But at least it has been done before. This was done by a Swiss smith from around the town of Schwyz, but I don't have any contact details, sadly. I'm sure there are also German smiths who have done similar modifications. On this page, you'll see an example of a customized 2-piece R93 stock. - mike ********************* The rifle is a noble weapon... Thanks, I will take a look at it. I have both R93's but I am going to use the wood stocked plain vanilla and go with a black laminate blank, and then inlet a thumbhole with a tactical hook on the butt. Similar to the McMillan A5 tactical stocks. I might just make a copy of an A5 if the thumbhole is too ugly. I am thinking it can all be cone with epoxy, care, and a dremmel.

Kind of like this? But with a thumbhole, or maybe without, depending on how it looks. It will have a high cheek piece but the butt will be even with the action the same as the R93 classic. I plan on cutting out a lot of weight by really cutting that shooting hook deep.
