Seth, you are not getting a lot of replies on this one, so we'll see if we can get some discussion going...

Are you looking for new prices??

Krieghoff drillings come in several models, but the cheapest and technologically most advanced (CNC machined, largely) is the "Optima" series. The advantage to that series is that they have the "UAS" trigger system, which other than the Blaser, is one of the better trigger systems for combined guns. In addition to that, you can get the Optima series with un-soldered rifle barrels, a feature you will appreciate when you don't have to wait for the barrel to cool between each shot when working on the range....

On the down side, the Optima series only comes with 2 locks, so you can only fire 2 of the three barrels without having to recock the gun (ah, manual cocker - another big plus in my book... almost forgot that one...). Some of the more expensive Krieghoff series have more in terms of hand fitting, if that is what takes your fancy.

The Optima drillings work well, but they are perhaps not the most elegant drillings in the World... (Look for a Heym, if that takes your fancy...).

Ok, so the prices for new Optima Drillings start around CHF7500 for a new gun here in Switzerland. That may be a bit more than what is charged in Germany, but it is probably comparable. in US$, that would be around $7140, at today's exchange rate....

Figure 30-60% of new price for a used gun, depending on condition and how bad you want it...

Mike,

Thanks again,

It's a new gun, but since it's at a secondary dealer and was a trade in it is being sold as used.

30-06 x12 x 12, and yes I think it's the Optima.

Ok, that gives me some bargaining room.

It's not the nicest gun I have ever seen, but I like it. And the 30-06 caliber means It's not so exotic if I use it on a hunt somewhere I won't have to hunt for ammo.

If I end up with it I am going to do the EAW and a 3-12x56 Zeiss, Schmidt, or Swarovski.

Hope you guys enjoyed Sicily, it's a fun place though a bit dirty.

I found out it was a Plus and not an Ultima.

Price is $6000, for the gun as new.

Seth, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the "Plus" was just the old name for what is now marketed as "Optima".

The deciding point is whether the gun has a manual cocking mechanism for both locks - as opposed to a cocking mechanism just for the rifle barrel. If the manual cocker is there, then it is basically the same system (same UAS trigger system) as the Optima.

If I'm not mistaken, my drilling is a "Plus", and it works fine.

I googled up some more information, and it appears the "Plus" is basically the same gun as the "Optima" - but with some changes...

If your German is up to scratch, this article provides an overview of the differences between a Plus and an Optima:

http://www.wildundhund.de/438,3749/

The major difference appears to be that the Plus is made out of aluminium and the Optima out of steel. The reason for this change, is to allow barrel inserts for cartridges suitable for big game (e.g. roe deer) hunting to be used in the shot barrels. The Plus should really only be used with the barrel inserts in calibers such as the .22 Hornet. This limitation has been relaxed (or dropped?) in the Optima.

Because of the differences in construction, I believe the Optima also allows double or triple rifle barrels to be used in the same gun.

All this to illustrate the differences between Plus and Optima. If you were intending to use the gun as a drilling, and are not worried about barrel inserts, the Plus will serve you as well as an Optima.

I recon I had thought that I would just use it with 2 Brenneke slugs, and put a Ziess, Schmidt, or Swaro rail 3-12x56 scope on one.

I doubt it will be my last drilling, I have my eye on Blaser D99 with two 9.3x74 Barrels.

Thanks again for all the help Mike,

I always enjoy your post.
