I start on the 3rd in Hessen. Should be done on Monday. I am going with a Graubünden group and Graubünden booking agent.

Price was right. We will see how it goes.

On May 3rd 2016, at my first outing of the season, I shot this very good buck.

It was a 180 m heart shot with my .30-06.

I often switch knives as I own quite a few. That day, I was using this Norwegian Helle.

Since the first of may, we shooted in my "Revier" 10 wildboars, 4 red deer-yearlings and 7 roebucks.
It is a good start in the new saison!

I got 2 more of them ; the 1st one I got was a gift received as a guest to an annual Norma organized moose hunt in Sweden (made for Norma but very similar to your Nying). I learned to appreciate this little knife's edge holding qualities (sandwich steel), so I bought 2 more since, the GT I showed already and a lighter Harding (actually, I find the latter most handy).

I got the Nying at the Hunt Expo in Johannesburg a few weeks ago. Helle had a stand and one of the owners was there. Spoke to him for about a half hour. Very nice man. Told me the history, shared company stories and chatted about Norway.

I am looking forward to carrying and using my new knife soon. Hopefully roe in June in NRW.

Cheers

Charlie

The very best edge holding knife I own originates from your country ; it's S-A. maker, Chris Reeve, has since emigrated to the U.S. His Ubejane integral knife is unmatched for edge holding and will still shave after field dressing 4 Roedeer. The only drawback is weight but a formidable cutting machine it is.

I know his knives. Real workhorses. Not my style from the look of them but they do the job without doubt!

WMD. Those on the pic were all taken from high seat. While majority of our clients are 70 and older, some are still a game to make a stalk.

On Saturday morning I was guiding an 80 years old gent. Morning was quite busy but nothing of interest - a lot of red deer, some does and a youngster buck. It was almost 7 am and the sun was already out when I proposed to do the last try in the remote part...to cut it short at the last turn we stalked upon great, old buck, but the client couldn't spot it right away - once he did the buck was already aware of us and disappeared silently into thick stuff.

We were back in the evening - on a high seat nearby: brown bear sow with 2 cubs, 3 stags, doe - anything but buck...off the high seat, another last minute stalk and at the same spot as in the morning, there was a buck...young 3 years old one - different one from the morning. Client was on sticks saying "If you say it is an older buck I'll take it..." I knew he was testing me...I couldn't pull his leg - he was way too experienced to swallow it...once I admitted it is not "that old" he winked at me and hanged the rifle with a smile, saying "Thank you...we (meaning us) are old hunters...we don't shoot young bucks..." Smiler

Thanks Charlie - actualy it was shot by my friend. We were hunting in Croatia (Lika region), each working on one side of the hill. I passed on a good 6 pointer while my friend got this beaut - lucky bugger.

Rut was in full swing - as can be seen on this photo ("rings" in the grass from buck chasing doe around bushes):

And an image of Gacka river in this region - famous for fly fishing - just a reminder to hit it once I find some time...

The last buck from this season. Was stalking for red stag with a client and this one came up.

Now red's rut is heating up and clients are arriving on Friday - 15 fully grown stags to be hunted - I will be off till the end of September - 2 weeks of pure madness Smiler
