AS many of you will know, I have a lot of time on my hands at the moment.

I was searching for a gunsmiths to infest closer than 30 miles from home when I found this website

Messrs John Rigby & Co. Ltd.

Double rifles, shotguns and bespoke dangerous game bolt actions seem to be offer, together with some very nice looking engraving.

Best of all it's all of 15 minutes walk from my house


I have a feeling I'll be getting to know these gentlemen at some point very soon.


Right then , .450 3" express or .577 Nitro Express for the next time I'm shooting roe over clearfell?

Occasionally life takes a break from it's remorseless shatting from upon high obsession and sends the occasional pleasant surprise one's way.

What do you think of the site btw, I want a Rising Strike double rifle! In .577 NE with patridge sights, 24" barrels, 19 lines per inch chequering and on ticket for deer.

Imagine sneaking it onto a driven boar shoot.....

im not completly certain that your police will allow you to take a 577 out in the english fields of sport.

You're probably right Peter.....

So what say you, will the police believe that 24 bore is smaller that .577 or do I need to settle for the little .450" ?

the 577 is a 25 bore, and i dont think that it will fool then enough, im just happy that i as a gunmaker can take a rifle of x caliber and test it in the field
if you want to play with the big stuff you can always come to denmark and try a few of mine, it is only a short plane ride away.

I don't know what gave me that impression!!

However a 450 3" sounds to me like a good place to start.

Not sure who this "new" John Rigby company is, but they could be using the name under some quirk of Company House....

I think I want a take-down bolt action in .416 Rigby and a double in 450 NE. Two John Rigby calibers in two John Rigby guns, which can be broken down for travel. And a twenty year payment plan.

The first of the 12 bore “B” grade guns has just been finished today. The professional photographer will not be able to take the official photographs until Monday.
The Directors took the decision in grateful acknowledgement of the support shown to John Rigby & Co. Ltd. London, by so many of you here, that we should like to share a sneak preview with you. These are very amateur photographs taken outside our workshops but we hope they reveal to you the essence of what you are all to come to expect from us.
