Just wanted to wish all the Norwegians and non Norwegians hunting in Norway good luck for the 1st day of the roe buck season tomorrow (10th August). I've been counting down the days for many months now but it looks like it's going to be torrential rain all day in my terrain so I'm in two minds as to whether I will go out and try might give the morning a miss and try the afternoon! Looking forward to see some pics from the lucky hunters. Anyway, as they say over here "Skitt jakt"

Finally the 10th of august is here...and what a great start of season. Went out at first light using the binos trying to spot some movement in the terrain. Nothing to bee seen so I walked another 100 m along some old railway tracks. Then I first spotted a fawn grazing at the field about 100 meters ahead. I crawled into a better position, getting an overview of the field. 2 min later I spotted the doe and the buck. Not a monster, but still a buck They were all over each other doing it "doggy style". After several attempts I sure hope he managed to pass his genes along to the next genereation. Because after watching them for about 10-15 min I finally had a clear shot at him. A few pics of the trophies from this morning. My little 4 pointer A friends spike to the left, my 4 pointer in the middle and Anders got himself a 5 1/2 pointer this morning

Well done indeed! Off to a flying start. At least you first buck died with a smile on its face. Its seems the rut is still going strong in your part of the world. What gun are you using?

Mr G That is a real nice buck and i am sure your happy with it. How long is he and is that a good head for the area or just what is expected. Will you get him assessed if so what measure will you use EG CIC BOON and CROCKET ETC

Thanks guys! Boghossian, Bucks are still chaseing does here. Still quite lot of activity. About my gun....it's my newes investment, a drilling Krieghoff Trumph 20-20/76 - 7x57R with a Schmidt & Bender Zenith 1,1-4x24 illuminated on top There is a few more pictures of it in my blog if you're interested! SLDG, I roughly measured the tines earlier today and they were approximately 28 and 29 cm long. I'll probably have it assessed using the CIC i guess. This sized trophy is probably a little bit above average, but not unexpected. Tonight I was out again, trying to call at a location were I only saw a doe this morning. The buck came after 5 min using a german handmade call. Could have shot it a coupple of times, but it was a small spike so I let it go if I'm lucky he'll be there next year again.

Well done Geir, you've had a great start to the season! We've been out morning and evening since the start of the season but nobody has had a result, we've seen several does without bucks and one buck who just wasn't interested in a female in the same area!!! I'm beginning to think the rut has been and gone in our area! Anyway, we'll keep trying!

I will be in Måløy for two weeks in September and was wondering, is there any chance of hunting nearby. Now spill your guts and tell me what to do, and what is the right approach to get a license for a hunt there Skype username solvijoh

Here's another photo of my first morning buck. Did get some ok footage of the hunt, including the kill itself. Been chasing bucks since first day, but no luck the other days. I'm looking for the guy who dropped this one last year. Looks like he's quite a big fellow if he's still alive. Well done Geir! Not bad for the first day of the season for sure, glad to see you got it with the new drilling as well. Four points means tasty meat my friend1 Now that 5 pointer is a rather special head, can you estimate roughly how old it is?

Well done mate! That deer looks tiny, probably because you're so bleddy enormous, tell me how much did it weigh?

Thanks mate! A great start for sure...I believe the new drilling brings me luck on all my hunts from now on Both bucks are now in the freezer! lovely meat indeed. About that 5 pointer I reckon it's 4-5 years old maybe...his teeths were all good so I don't think it's that old actually.

Today was my first night out for roebuck. And behold, this little five pointer was slowly working his way toward me from the other side of a large grassy field. Spotted him when I came to the field at a measured 340 meters. He then dissapered into the tall grass, but I had glimps of him now and then. After one and a half hour, I heard him browsing close to me but could not see him. My left leg was sleeping, mosquitos ewerywhere, cramp in my right arm and my whole body was screaming STAND UP AND GO HOME!!! Then he suddenly stood there at 30 meters. I lifted the rifle, swung left and when the crosshairs hit the chest, I let go. All in a matter of seconds. He jumped and ran, but I found lung blood and followed the spoor for nearly 100 meters in the woods. My feeling was that the shot was good, but it all happened so fast. And in the last light of the day, I found him dead, a nice little five pointer. The shot had hit the top of the lungs, above the heart. Rifle used was my Kimber Montana in 308 Win. Same set up as I used in England last year. Sorry for a blurred picture... Arild Iversen.

Good luck on the first day of the Roe Season! OK, not sure if this counts, but on the first day of the Norwegian Roe season we were hunting with a lovely couple from Alesund. Their first hunt in England and what a hunt it turned out to be....... He took this lovely fellow, but as normal, it was his wife that took the biggest trophies! She ended up with a gorgeous Muntjac, as well as the Fallow of a life-time. Rgds Ian Just taking my rifle for a walk!........

Lovely looking muntjac buck. I do like it when they get that hump between the glands on the head. I had a friend across for them last week, but we were hampered by high undergrowth or them still being in velvet.

Nice to see some action and some happy faces! I got a small buck last week but I'm mostly seeing does. Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened. Sir Winston Churchill

No plans for Africa for the forseeable time Ian. Besides I have no more room for trophies, I´m running out of space. So this smallish critters are more actual than ever Let´s see what is left when I have payed my taxidermy bills from Namibia Arild Iversen.

Another little five pointer fell for the 308 Win this evening. Distance about 130 meters across an open pasture. He was in company with a doe, and I watched them for a while. But at 130 meter they started to angle away, so I decided to take the shot. Hit him high in the neck/shoulder and he went straight down. Arild Iversen.
