Stag Hunting in Scotland

Hello to all on this forum. I live in Chattanooga, TN, USA, and I have some questions about hunting Stag in Scotland.

First, let me say that I come from a strong Scottish heritage, please do not hold that against me. I have a 14 year old son who I wanted to take to Scotland this fall for a Stag hunt to help solidify his desire for hunting and secure a connection to our Old Country.

I started emailing several "Stalkers" in an effort to get an early season Stag hunt for the two of us. The problem I kept encountering was that we could get a hunt, but no one wanted to let us shoot a quality stag, nor did they want us to use our own guns. What's the deal with silencers in the UK? Are we afraid that someone might hear the blast of a gun?

I really want to hunt a quality Stag in Scotland, with my gun, with my ammo, and without a silencer. Can this be done?
Mike

Have a look at this website, www.easthaugh.co.uk

I have hunted with them twice. The hotel will organise all your stalking. I used my own rifle, ammo and without a silencer.

I would recommend them to anyone. The hotel is great, the food is out of this world and the stalking is great too.

Hope this helps.
Mike

With kind regards

Thanks for the referral, I'll take a good look at these folks. Did you get to shoot a nice racked stag? Mike

Mike,

If you would like a week of quality stag stalking then drop me a PM. You can use your own rifles no problem and permits are easy to arrange.

There are a variety of estates we can use depending on your fitness levels and how many stags you are looking for each. I would think two stags each over the week would be plenty.

What are you looking for in terms of trophy quality? Shooting trophies in Scotland is quite rare although possible as most estates would rather cull out the poor genes rather than the prime breeding stock.

Rgds,
Kiri

I have also stayed at East Haugh and the food/accomodation is fantastic. As detailed in Ochaythenoo's link - it was a traditional highland stalk. My father and I took 2 stags in a day, an 8 pt and a 9 pt. There were larger stags on the hill that we did not pursue as they were holding hinds.
