Finally found a source of 30% Peroxide for skull whitening, the chemist has quoted £32 plus carriage for 500ml, is this the going rate or is there another source I can purchase cheaper from?

Hey,

Go to your local hairdressers and ask there for the creme or gel. My cousin gets mine and it is a fraction of that cost. I'd say it would work out to about a fiver per skull if that.

In Holland I have to pay a little over € 7,- per liter (1.000 ml), which is some 5 GBP per liter. And yes, it's a 30% solution.
I buy it at a local chemist's store that also sells paint etc.

Find "Sigma Chemical Company" (St. Louis). It's in their catalog.

Fallow Buck, though I no longer need the services of a hairdresser, the ones I have asked tell me that they cannot get the 30% 100volume strength variety required for whitening skulls, any chance of you finding out the stockists address from your friend - if it is this strength? Cheers

NW,

Either the price has rocketed or you are being fleeced.

In 2000 I paid the local chemist £12.95 for a 2 litre bottle of 35% HP. I am still using it now.

Sorry but I have now moved accross the country and the local is local no more. I cannot remember the name but they were in Trumpington High Street, Cambridge.

I should try an independant chemist rather than superdrug, boots etc.

Any of you folks thought of trying the local Vets' they use peroxide all the time, that's where l get mine. Also not that l'd want to start a debate about gunpowder but if you're looking for a source of Saltpetre for curing bacon/skins etc.. they may be also be of help.

Dave.

Hi,

I bought some on Saturday. 2litres aof 35% (130vol) was just under £16. 500cl was about £6

I went nito my local chemist in the end as my cousin was busy and wasn't going to the hair suppliers. They ordered it in for me and it arrived the next day..

Be very carefull not to get it on your hands. I had a little drop which I washed off and within 20mins it still came up with a burn. Washing in vinegar and holding a vinegar swab over it did the job.

NW,

Where abouts are you based?

Not sure about the regs to get it to you in the post but a courrier should do the trick.

I live in south london, and work in town.

Hey NW,

I used to fish the beaches all round your neck of the woods from Cley to Trimmingham Mundsley and Overstrand. also did a bit on the sands. That's a great bit of the country.

I spoke to my local chemists but apparently as I expected it is illegal to put them in the post and you need special chemical courriers which will be expensive. This stuff is quite aggressive as I found out when I got it on my hand so I'd hate to risk it.

Regards,
FB

I too fish these places - out tonight for the 1st of the season spinning for bass (out on Wells east hills), maybe a bit early but need to throw a lure! (an 8lb bass been caught off Cromer pier recently).
Your chemist must get the stuff delivered to him from manufacturer, maybe his manufacturer could deliver to my chemist, if i could have his stockist telephone number or something?
Cheers FB, leave it with you!

Cromer peir always turns up the odd big fish but a lot are lost in the structure. Later in the season you can have great sport spinning for them with sandeels. Landing them is another question though.

The chemist won't give me the name of the supplier unfortunately. If I'm up that way I'll let you know and I'll bring it up but there is nothing in the pipeline at the moment.

I meant to mention the other day that the shooting times said that http://www.Bushwear.co.uk sell a trophy preparation pack. There was a blood release agent and a trophy bleach in it. £40, for roe size inluding sheild, fixings and whatever else you need.

I gave them a call for you:
250ml £5 for just the bleach and the same price for the same size blood release agent. They can do the chemicals in a bigger size but have never been asked for them so they haven't priced them before.

I hope that helps, and they can deliver to your home. By the way I think we all deserve a picture of the skull you are mounting once it is done!!!
Big Grin

FB

Nightwalker UK,

Sorry not to have replied to this earlier but only just got back today.

I think we talked about this before, but I should be able to get some from a local hairdresser supplier.

The stuff I get is "40 Vol/12%" (just checked the container) and is around £3 per litre.
This is plenty strong enough and works a treat on skulls. You can get a similar strength paste but that is a bit more expensive, and as I have never used it, I can't say how well it works.

I don't think I can post Peroxide via the Royal Mail but would be happy to meet up some where convient next time I am heading for Thetford.

Regards,

Pete

Have just applied 60 vol 18%, to 4 roe and a couple of muntjac skulls, will be interested if this does the trick. From what I remember from doing it in the past sunlight helps the job, well it has gone overcast now so maybe need another application tomorrow?
Paid £3 for a litre, much more like it! (skin flint!!)
Have tried a boiling bleach similar to bush wears and found it ok but not an easy process for bigger heads due to the ease of submerging or lack of it in submerging a skull without getting antlers soaked, fine for roe and munjac though, bit expensive too.
No fish biting FB, but good to feel the sea spray again!
Thanks for your advice too Pete, sounds like your Peroxide is similar to my recent purchase.

OK, the 60 vol worked a treat, took a few applications to whiten some older heads but end result is very satisfactory! Fallow Buck, is there an easy way to get photos on the forum? Have a digital camera but not sure how to post pictures, I am sure you might be intrigued at what I have been whitening!!!!

Thanks everyone for there info and help!
