Hunting the chamois in France

4 cases are possible 1) ONF Forests and Game department 2) ONF tenant 3) Acca : the village 4) landowners, dont count on them, they are very rare in the mountains where land is valueless.

ONF Forests and Game department : you are guided by a Forests and Game guide (250/day) and the price of the chamois will be from 420 for a yearling until 2200 for a gold medal trophy; a decent chamois_is 900-1100. Accommodation 12/day, porter (if need be) 125.
ONF tenant : he is not allowed to sell any animal. He may invite You to shoot for free (its my case).
ACCA : villagers Hunting association. The villagers gang together to hunt on the whole area of the village save ONF estates. Every year they are allotted a restricted number of chamois that they share. The association can sell one or more chamois to earn money. Anyhow its rarely the case. Its more than difficult to know which Association is wanting to sell chamois shoot licenses. One have to know these villagers to ask them if they are selling chamois. In my case, I never succeed in finding such villagers. I know a friend who shot a chamois in the Pyrenees (mountain between France and Spain) for less than half the ONF price. Ill ask him the coordinates.

SAME PRICES, SAME ORGANISATIONS FOR MOUFFLON

RED STAG ONF fawn 175, Hind one year old 250, Spiker and Hind 600, decent stag 1000-3000, gold medal trophy 5000 and >.

Add boar, roe, marmot, black grouse, bartavelle partridge, woodcock, hare, .

If I can help JB

"Alpine Hunting in New Zealand" by Roger Lentle and Frank Saxton.

Well worth a read IMHO...

Definitely worth the read, but it has fairly little to do with the way chammy hunting is generally done in Austria, especially guided. But it is good you mentioned this book, it reminded me that it is still at my buddy's house...about time to ask him to return it.
