I've spotted a barreled action that I like the look of. It is at a Dealer in the US, and I need it in the UK. Does anyone have any expereince of shipping such items to the UK? I have a "tame" RFD who could accept it.

Thanks very much.

You need a UK dealer with an import licence.

You find a US dealer who does export paperwork and get the firearm sent to them. They will get you to fill out a purchase order which you sign and send to them with a copy of your dealers import licence (some will accept scanned pdf) Unfortunately I can't reccomend anyone as the last outfit I used misquoted on carriage and misaddressed the rifle to me instead of my dealer.

Then you wait and having waited wait some more. You get your paperwork and then agree shipping method and charges.

Your rifle arrives and you pick it up from your dealer.

The pitfalls:-

You have no practical right of returning anything.

The minimum cost for paperwork appears to be $500US

You pay VAT on the value of the rifle and import duty on that total plus the carriage.

Carriage costs are really expensive now.

If you are unluck you will incur additional charges at the carrier end such as collection fees, storage fees etc etc.

What with the exchange rate, the hassle and the expense it is very definately only worth it for stuff you cannot get in the UK. Money is not a good reason!

I've done it 3 or 4 times and got badly stung last time on additional charges. There used to be a time I got paperwork and carriage for $200 and didn't get charged duty - those days are long gone....... Frowner

What's the barreled action?
