In Sweden it`s not hunting season during the rut. The best calibers are between 6 and 7mm. But most people hunt with their moose rifle like 6,5*55, 308w,8*57 or 3006. Softpoint are only used in calibers like 22wmr and 22hornet. Kimmo

Protected during the rut in Norway as well, and that's probably a good thing. Even though hunting is not considered a major threat. Habitat destruction and loss is. Their rutting areas are quite sensitive to three cutting. the biggest threat to the capercaille (and other grouse birds) is hunters who won't bother shooting varmints. in other words, 99% of you scandinavian hunters.

Varmints as in small rodents? Do you refere to predators? In recent studies in Sweden, it has been found that small predators like ferrets, minks, martens and others together with predatory birds are responsible for some 80% of the predation on the woodland birds. Tell me how often do you get to shoot a ferret or a falcon? Yes in general scandinavian hunters are poor at keeping after predators, yes we could do a lot more trapping, I will this coming winter do a a lot more however it´s sort of strong to put it the way you do Steffen, especially as you exclude your self somehow. Oh well the negative trend continues, best regards Chris

Hi! Is it possible hunts In Sweden and Norway in the spring as in Belarus?
|

Hi No, we can't hunt them during the spring. The season in Norway is 10th of Sep - 23th of Dec. In Sweden it's 25th of Aug - 31th of Jan. But the male birds meet up during autumn, so it's possible to hunt them like you do in the spring. Not common though.
