http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/wild-deer/index.htm Uh Oh, when Government starts to take an interest in my sport I worry. Take the time to read this and to comment. It would appear that a central plank of DEFRAs thinking is fertility control. Seeing as we can't manage to shoot enough deer once at ranges of up to 300yds, I don't see how we can dart them once a year at ranges of up to 30yards. My contact at the DI reports that DEFRA feels that the public 'will not allow shooting of deer in 10years time'. I myself will be feeding back that the money that is spent on researching and implementing fertility control would be better spent educating the public that deer management is humane, economicaly beneficial, organic, sustainable etc etc. A chance for 22centre fire for roe and muntjac?

Still working through fine print, in an effort to give a reasoned reply! Thanks for flagging it up.

What does the Deer Society say?? It is all somewhat complicated and legalistic. There seem to be endless options for traps buried both within the texts and process. A lot of questionable (read: polical correct, anti traditional country value) people and organizations involved too. Who acts on behalf of stalkers - do you have an association other than the Deer Society?? - mike
