Sako75, I started out with some older Sako mounts but hated them I then tried some cheap and cheerful steel Hilvers which were OK, but a bit "argricultural" and also very high...I then went to the Optilocs and really like them. They are a touch high but I don't find it a major problem. I bought mine not long after they were introduced, and although they are now sold as seperated rings and bases, mine came fitted/bonded together. I really like the look of the new Ring-Mounts and would probably go with those if I was doing it again. I know a lot of people say the screws are soft on the Optiloc's but I think that is done deliberate so that you folks who are like guy the gorilla strip the thread on the screw before ruining the whole mount. Having said all that, I have never noticed a problem with them and I am still using the original screws... regards, Pete

I have Optilocks on two of my Sakos, and Apel on the thrid. My 22Lr is also a Sako, but I have cheap Millet mounts on that one - would not use them on a hunting rifle. I think everyone I know who has Sako use Sako mounts with the exception of some odd Warne mount. /Martin

I have used Optilocks, Leupold fixed mounts, Weaver bases with Burris Signature-Z rings. In my part of the woods QD mounts are almost the norm, that makes EAWs another popular choice for Sakos. We don't necessarily see a whole bunch of Sakos here, the market is more directed towards German/Austrian guns for the upper market segment and towards US guns for the lower market segment. So Sakos sort of fall in between those categories... - mike
