Has anyone any recommendations for a Musk Ox hunt? It would have to be a spring time hunt and one of the hunters is not the fittest!

Lots of good outfitters for muskox. I think that the fur is half the trophy and hunting them in March in Greenland or the NWT/Nunavut on a sled or snow machine is a brutal experience.

Having lived in Barrow Alaska for a number of years.

Saying that I'd probably take one in Greenland or Nunavut on a boat based hunt.

Talk to Roger Joos about hunting Greenland. He books for a native outfit, who have successfully hunted their area for more than 10 years. They hunt with dog sleds in the spring, and are more than 100% successful (some hunters taking an additional bull). Hunting ptarmigan and snowshoe hare is for free.

Roger posts here under the name of rj61 (see link for mail address) and he speaks a very passable English.

You can get more information from this website, although in German. Roger's mail address is also on there somewhere. As you'll see, the accommodations have gotten quite a bit more "plush" than when I hunted Greenland some years back. We slept in tents, now there are cabins.

The website also contains a page with a bunch of pictures.

P.S. One of our UK members went hunting with Mathias (Greenland outfitter) not that long ago and did a report here on AR. Perhaps he will chime in with a link?

See my trip report below in my singature (Greenland 2011). I would highly recommend booking with Malene, and it is not a physically challenging hunt at all.

A friend of mine did this a few years back on the dog sleds in greenland. Even though he didn't get a shot due to bad weather he said it was a great hunt to make.

I'm sure the rug must be a fantastic trophy, but I'm not sure if I can manage a week of frozen weather!!!

Rgds,
Warm weather hunter Wink
