Can any of my fellow hunters from the old country check out a local price for Swarovski SLC 10X42 WB binoculars for me?

If someone from Austria could give me a price I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm heading to Austria on the 22nd for holiday with my wife and son and want to see what the price differences are between those binoculars there and here (USA). Here the price is around $1250 without tax.

Hi Nitro,

don't be mislead by the location in my profile. I live just 3 miles from the Austrian border and visit regularly.

You won't believe it, but with today's exchange rate, the 10x42 SLC will cost you 1249,25 $. That's the price you will get it for from smaller dealers. It's the price quote from Kettner and Frankonia (compare with American Cabelas and Brownells) minus 20% discount you usually get from smaller dealers.

Give or take 30-40 $ this price should be realistic.

Let's see what the "real" Austrians come up with! Maybe they have sources they keep hidden from Germans... Wink

Have a nice trip,

elwood.

Elwood:

Thank you for the information! My father-in-law (Austrian) asked me to get a price on a Leupold scope for him.

The price I could get the scope for was half what they were selling them for in Austria! I was wondering if the same was true for Swarovski binocualrs in Austria. Apparently it isn't!

Thanks for the information Sir!

Regards,

Swarovski has just upgraded the SLC series (they sent me the 8x30WB and 10x42WB for testing). They now benefit from the latest Swarobright coating (formerly reserved to the EL), ergonomics are improved and come with a new and very handy carrying strap whith sliding adjustment for length . Image quality is comparable to the already superlative EL. Both now only differ in ergonomy, close range focusing, weigt and... price. Now, the bad news : prices went up again.
New suggested prices :
8x30 SLC : 1043 €
10x42 SLC : 1433 €
10x42 EL : 1912 €.

NB.: € x 1.3 = USD.

Hi Nitro,

you are very welcome! Weird prices arent they?! But you are right, if I import a Leupold from the States I save a huge amount of money compared to the prices dealers in Germany ask.

Even some European Zeiss optics are cheaper if I buy them in the states and thats including shipping and customs! nut

If you happen to come near Passau, let me know! Beautiful medieval city with three rivers crossing it - not to be missed!

@ Andre:
Interesting information, my price quote was based on 1336 € from the 2004 price list. Sorry, but USD = € x 1.2. The times of 1.3 are over, unfortunately... Wink

My wife, nine-month old son and myself arrive in VIE on the 23rd of July, then it is about a 2 - 2 1/2 hour drive south to Stainz, Austria (about 30 km south of Graz).

If it weren't for the baby, I would have to make a road trip up that way! I did a search for Passau and it looks beautiful! I've been close to that area before and it is utterly beautiful.

Send me your email address via PM. If we do decide to drive up that way for a short road trip, overnight excursion, I'll drop you a note!

I love to "collect" castles--each castle (schloss or burg) I visit I take photographs, blow them up to 8x10s and hang them in our stairwell. (our stairwell has money, ticket stubs, mementos, etc from everywhere we've visited.) I'm always looking for new castles to visit!

(The last time we went back to my wife's home, we flew into Frankfurt, rented a car and drove down to Stainz. We stopped and stayed at Heidelburg and Saltzburg on the way. Heading home, we stopped at neuschwanstein (forgive my spelling) for a few days. Bavaria is beautiful right on the border.)

I can't wait to have some delicious beer and radler!
