Well on Friday night whilst looking for a fox round a release pen, i was "charged" by a munty. Given that we have already had one pet dog badly attacked, i shot the bugger with my 243 ack, at a range of conservatively 5 yards. I was amazed at the size head on him though! Never seen one like this before, and i've shot a good number of them! If i get this wrong, sorry first time doing photos Further apologies for the state of my kitchen, and th chap being frozen. Any recommendations for a taxidermist! Unfortunately he dwarfed the one the girl i like shot!!

unfortunately the photo doesnt do the third point on the rhs any favours! I think he's good for a munty but will stand corrected! Never seen a big five pointer before though, the one the girl shot last week, had three brow tines, but not a rear tine! Not bad for two minutes out the back door.

I wouldn't know a nice muntjac if it sat on my lap, but I am curious about the agressivity. Is it common or just a result of frequent contact with humans? I know muntys can be dangerous and protect themselves from dogs rather well. Do they use horns or canines or both?

i live in a country house, which is split into apartments. We have a pretty free rain over the 700 acres, and often a dog or two is aloud out without supervision. One came limping in one day having taken a severe beating of a muntjac. it had had both lungs punchered. I assume they use the antlers and sab, but i'm not sure. The deer on this estate have a lot of interaction with the public, as there are two big bridleways, and i assume the odd aggressive muntjac, is simply defendin his patch from what they assume is a dog. They do however also run at you well if you call them with a buttolo roe call.

Nice 'ead.Didn't know that they charge people and much less attack dogs and injure them, too. Best- Locksley,R. "Early in the morning, at break of day, in all the freshness and dawn of one's strength, to read a book - I call that vicious!"- Friedrich Nietzsche

Maybe he'd been taking the pheasants as well!! Think how you could have impressed that gal of yours if you had laid the rifle aside and defeated him in hand to hand combat.

Considering the fact that his antlers would be just below testical height, i wasnt even going to think about trying that! Actually had the fox this morning, so hope the poults will be ok for a few more days.
