Waidmannsheil, Guys!

Yup, beautiful scenery, good Bucks and a coupla Buddies - just doesn't get any better than that.

Like Mikee said; the trophy quality just so much better than what we see in our Reviere; I'm a sucker for Pearling too; lotsa knobs add character to the trophy IMO.

Lots of variation in antler quality up there - the nearer Aberdeen you go, the better the heads are. On upper Deeside the soil is supposedly very acid, so that may account for a lack of minerals to develop larger antlers.

This picture shows the variation in heads from bucks taken over the week - the majority were mature animals rather than yearlings. There's a couple of interesting malforms too, plus the perfect pair of 'Y' antlers pictured above, that will shortly be adorning a new stick.

Adam,

The heads very similar to what we have given the age spread although the vast majority of our Bucks are fortunate to have real length above the ears; therefore your "long" quality goes "a-long" way.

#'s, 1, 7, & 10 would be considered OUTSTANDING trophies if taken from our patch.

No 1 was only about 3yrs old he could of been left and would of made a medal , No7 was an old buck going back and was a perfect buck to be taken out , No 10 made a good silver this buck was a new comer to the ground and olny seen once before.
Some of the other bucks in the pic are malforms and made my friends great trophys .

We are back on the same ground at the end of this month to see if we can find a few more in the rut

Hey Gadget,

I tried to call last week but can't get through. I'm flying out today for a week but lets catch up after no-Gamefair weekend?

Adam, just looking at the pics...what a gorgeous part of the world. Thanks for bringing be along to experience it, and thanks to that crazy Hans for the crow calling demonstration. I didn't know a 220 lb. guy could sound so much like a little crow.

Well the roe rut is over for another year! I had some nice bucks two silver medals and one drying out waiting to be done .we have just got back from scotland after are two week trip the count was 14 roe bucks and 1 14point red stag, and 5 missed bucks (the old buck fever Confused).. a great time was had by all, i had a few friends over which was nice to catch up, they all got a buck or two so everyone went home happy. One of the lads went home with a medal roe buck and one went home with his 14 stag which is know at the taxidermist. we didn't hunt every day and managed to get over to Moy game fair for the day which was a great. Will get some pics up when I get a minute .
