| Yes,Russia. We can't believe it either. It doesn't apply to UK residents. It applies to people transiting from other countries. |

| No way I will take firearms through the U.K. overnight again. Went to Tanz over the Summer for a hunt. The guy taking me on the hunt lives in London. I spent the night in london one night on the way over and on the way back. Had to pay a bonded warehouse crazy money to store each of the firearms overnight and have an agent with me to make sure the moronic gov't officials did not succeed in messing up the paperwork and keep the firearms from passing through. I flew over on united to london, then switched to BA to go to africa.
The gov't agent in charge when we were flying out was doing everything she could to slow us down and create a hassle. If you are going somewhere with firearms, don't spend the night in London. |

I think you will find i does apply to UK residents. For instance I know for a fact that a UK resident can't take a sporting firearm to Zim, nor can any British Airline transport one there either... I think that apply's to other routes as well not just those originating in the UK...so BA would not fly a sporting rifle if the flight was between say Madrid and Zim, regardless of the fact that the hunter had never stepped foot in the UK and only boarded the plane in Spain... |

| For those that it DOES apply to could you write to the British Airports Authority and let them know that you will now be going via Charles de Gaulle, Paris?
If any are interested I'll post the relevant address. |

| Pete E,
You're right on those comments, but it's because Zim falls under a different catagory. Zim and Sudan are under an embargo. And not just by the UK, but by the EU. Which means you can't fly directly from any EU country to Zim with your firearm. Hunters have been known to use a broken ticket where they fly to South Africa, claim their gun and then fly to Zim on a separate ticket. |

That is my understanding too, but I believe that other EU countries don't include "sporting firearms" in the Embargo, at least not to Zim anyway (no idea abouut the Sudan).. As I understand it, the individual EU states have some latitude with regards the "fine print" of the embargo and the UK has enforced it harshly to include sporting firarms partly hoping it will have an ecconomic impact on the hunting industry. This was how it was explain to me when I contacted the DTI about taking a rifle to RSA a few years back. The Official more or less suspected I was trying to get into Zim by staging in RSA as you mentioned... Regards, Peter |

| Pete,
You're probably right about the motivation concerning the impact on the hunting industry. And we've received reports of hunters trying to transit the Netherlands to the Sudan who've been blocked from bringing their firearms. |
