Ladies and Gentlemen, Very soon it will be the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month, the day we remember, and honour, the brave Service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting for their countries. The last survivors of the Great War are almost gone now, but today we have more Veterans than ever, as conflicts rage around the world. Whether they are service men and women of the Great War, WW2, Korea; or the more recent but bloody conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, or indeed the host of other smaller "bush fire wars" or Peace Keeping Operations, please take some time out of your day at 11am and remember them. It is said that times change, but one of the few things that remain constant is the courage and selflessness that our Service Personnel show often in the face of great odds and adversity. This might be on the battle field itself, or overcoming the mental and physical scars when the fighting is over. For the Fallen They went with songs to the battle, they were young. Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. | ||
