The local government(länsstyrelsen) in sweden has denyed a aplication of protective wolfhunt made by the management of a kindergarten. Wolfs who are unfreigtened by humans are normal is the denyal reason. A new rule is that all applications on protective hunt on wolfs are overviewed by EU.

Why did you ever join the EU?

I have a friend who has bear hounds in B.C.; I bought one from him. He has taken/sold dogs to Swedes as bear hunting with dogs is a growing sport there. He told me about the large moose population in Sweden and how Swedes hunt game in a different manner than say North America. He also said that Sweden doesn't have many wolves; apparently why they have so many moose. How many wolves do you have in Sweden?

Kara what? I'm old school, we have plotts, but over the years have had redbones, blueticks, blk & tans, walkers, and bunch of cross breeds. They all were straight but pleasure dogs; spent many hours with those old hounds since I was young. No joke, I hear they got a bunch of short legged brown bears in Sweden and way more moose than Alaska. My friend said the Swedes in urban areas want to kiss the wolves and the rural people in Northern Sweden want to shoot every last one of them; sounds familiar.

The wolf population is about 400 wolfes growing 15%/year. That is in 1/3 of sweden so localy its to much. I have friends who hunts bear with plotts we also use karelian beardog, norwegian elkhound(standing), jämthund and stövare(driven). We also hunt Lynx(bobcat) with these dogs. I and most of the rural parts of Sweden voted no for EU membership but it were yes in the citys were most people live. The same city living people want to se wolf if they go on a rare vacation in the contry, with out caring for farmers and people living there. The scandinavian wolfpopulation costs about 22m euro/year not including cost for the reindeer area.

About 80000 mooses are shot in sweden a year. A pack of 4-5 wolfes eat about 100-110 mooses/year most of them small calfes. Our bear population is over 3000 growing and expanding. Lynxpopulation is growing and expanding. Eagle both spieces are growing. Wolverine is the only big predator that have a minor population. Most of these are living in the same areas.

I am so very happy that Norway stays outside this EU crap. We are able to manage our predator populations without having the morons in EU telling us what we can do or not. I totally understand why some people in rural Sweden want to use a gun and a shovel when it comes to wolves considering all the BS from EU.

the guy I got my one of my plotts from in B.C. (Guy from Illinois married B.C. girl lives near border in Canada. He has some of the best bear hounds out west. He has been to Sweden with his dogs, sold them there and hunted all over with Swedes, They all showed him a great time, treated him like royalty and this guy hadn't been 50 miles from his house in years; but sure could raise good bear hounds. He told me all about how they hunt in Sweden and how many moose they have and how few wolves they got, sounded like fantasy land or disney world to me. He also told everybody the Swedes were the highest class people on this earth, so they did show him a good time. Here in Alaska, we have 25,000 wolves; and they figure 6 moose/year for each one of them killin machines. So, people don't get as many moose as they do in Sweden. Don't let them get over 400. We have bunch of caribou & moose & bear & sheep around where we live along the Yukon; and too many wolves. I'm already thinking about spring bear on bait.

Bear hunt is a relative new thing here as the population was high enuogh about 1990. Hunting over bait is not allowed because some epa people think it can make the bears go to close to citys and it work to well for hunting. Hunting organisations trys to make it legal again. Bear hunting is allowed from august to oktober. This is the first day of our Lynx hunt i hope they find some tracks today. 25000 wolfes sound like anightmare!

Bear hunting with hounds is a good thing. Bears take 85% of the moose calf production in late May & early June here in Alaska; you don't want that occurring in Sweden in the future. I have lynx where I live too, see them often enough, especially this time of year. I've considered hunting lynx with plotts, but friends have had problems with local wolves killing their hounds while hunting. I've taken a few lynx with predator calls though, actually; I like seeing the lynx close to the cabin. Last winter, I had wolves in my garbage cans outside nx to my tool shed. My indoor dogs opened up at 3 am, I ran out on the porch with flashlite and them wolves took off, I never even got a shot off at them. My wife had put some old salmon in the garbage cans the week before; and them wolves were awful hungry. First time that has ever occurred.

Yes lynx is nice animal. They take a lot of roedeer, localy they makes them disapear. The main problem with wolfes is that they takes a lot of hunting dogs.
