I'm toying with the idea of increasing the number of my rifles that use a moderator.

What countries in Europe do not allow (visitors) to hunt with moderated rifles?

For visitors to Norway I´m not sure, but locally they see a lot of use.
At least among the roe and red deer stalkers shooting from stand/high seats or on fields close to farmhouses.

As long as it is legally to use here, I can´t see no reason why a visiting hunter with all the red tape ok could not use one?

IanF and Artemis have hunted a bit over here, they might know...

Not legal in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and - I believe - France.

I do not know anything about hunting in France with moderators, but I know that are legal for range shooting. I saw a lot of S.M. at Game Fair at Chambord. I visited also a gun shop near Chambord and the owner showed to me a lot of them built for .22Lr.

That's that then!

A good place to collect guns then - over here many nice pieces have the ubiquitous 1/2" UNF and associated pitting... Mad thumbdown

Richard,

Mike's actually correct. Here in the Fatherland there are a few exceptions such as a Moderator on a 22lr for vermin control in built up areas but generally not worth the beaurocracy to attempt to obtain.

You can immediately determine who are the visiting UK Nimrods as they mostly arrive with a threaded cap on the muzzles of their rifles.

Cheers,

3 shots do not make a group, they show a point of aim or impact.
5 shots are a group.

For the visiting hunter - entry to Norway is a welcome breath of fresh air.

Good looking(!)customs lady:
Oh, hunting..... my brother and my father hunt! I used to go out with them for Moose.

Open mouthed Brit:
Errrrgh - really?

Good looking customs lady:
Do you have a gun?

Open mouthed Brit:
Errrr - not with me this time.

By now, GORGEOUS looking, smiling customs lady:
Do you want one? Smiler

What can you say to a welcome like that!?!

Back to topic - no problems importing legally held moderator to Norway.

Ian, that sounds like a female custom officer from my neighborhood.
She works at the Oslo Airport, and was on duty both when we left for RSA in 2006 and when we came back.

Eager to know what we have got on our safari, and she also came from a family of red and roe stalkers.

What a delight to meet such officials on duty thumb
