Hi All,

I should be picking up my reloading press at the weekend. I am going for the RCBS Rockchucker.....
ConfusedConfusedConfusedConfused

I can't get hold of the heads I want though. I have tried reloading solutions and York guns, and the former only has one box with a £14 carriage charge.

Does anyone else know where I can get some 168gr 308's and 85gr 243's?

If not I'll justhave to wait for a couple of months for the next shipment to arrive.

Thanks,

FB

Seth.

Here in the UK we have issues with expanding ammunition! Yep - they are held on certificate and subject to the same security restrictions as a firearm.

Problem being - we can't privately import expanding bullet heads - any more than we could mail order a rifle from the states!

Have you any idea of the pain we feel - looking at the prices you folks get to pay for ammo?

Multiply $$$ by two and that is likely to be the cost in GBP! Frowner

Tried that, Midway won't ship to outside of the USA, neither will Nosler or Barnes.

You think it is bad trying to get good quality bullets in mainland UK, try living in Northern Ireland. I bought 3 bxes (150 pieces) of 150gr Nosler partition golds a few months ago, cost me £120. Thats about $200.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they are not out to get you....

WOW. That is sad. I assume you are required to use expanding bullets for hunting, yet the gov't has imposed regulations on this requirement? The way the gov't there has twisted and controlled its populace is sick. I know the US is far from perfect in many ways, but the more I hear how citizens of other coutries are treated, the more I like it here. Not trying to pass judgement - just trying to understand how this could be the state of the nation there.

I sincerely hope you can convince your gov't that bullets are inanimate pieces of metal that shouldn't be regulated. I suppose there are restrictions on fishing sinkers as well? They can be used as projectiles in slingshots, you know... I am sure I'll be more appreciative when I go to the store tonight and buy a box of bullets off the shelf for $14 with no paperwork!!

Funny, in N Ireland, there are no restriction on owning expanding heads. Anyone can walk in of the street and buy any amount of any head, presuming what you want is in stock. In practice in my area, the most readily available heads are Hornady and Sierra. If you shoot a caliber other than .224, .243, 6.5, .270 or .30 you are in bother.

Here we have to apply for a one of license every time you want to buy powder or primers. The local cops will issue it over the counter free of charge to annyone with a vaild firearms license. Its just a pain in the ass.

Hi am interested in your quest for triple shocks? 85g look a good choice but 168g in 30cal wouldnt they be to tough and just pencil through?
I shoot a 308 and have still never recovered a bullet and i use plain old cup and core.

There will probably be some dinner lined up along the way so keep me posted. we are about 3 miles east of Grinstead so nice and local.

TSFKAFB,

Try this website.

www.german-precision-ammunition.de

It's all in German but pretty self-explanitory; after all you only want some bullets (or "heads" as you guys refer to. Where I come from a "head" is a projectile, bullet or something you occaisionally get lucky with on Saturday night.....)

Their availability is currently in .308" (141 grains but no .243") and their Customer Service will make you cease looking for hard to obtain Barnes "heads" as you guys refer to them.

I know these guys personally, just came from the Hunt/Dog Convention in Dortmund with them where their wares were selling like Hot-Cakes at the show.

Net, good stuff.

Cheers,

I have been in several shops there and almost
fell over when I saw the prices. We are lucky
indeed. Just got 1000 .458 bullets fer $120 shipped. Can not even guess how many GBP it would set you back.
Good Luck

Dear FB

Have a look at this website http://www.gsgroup.co.za/02hv.html
I will be ordering for my 7x64, 308 and 375 very shortly.
I would have them shipped to my local gunshop 10 minutes drive away

Regards

Mark

Some time ago, I ordered from MidwaySwiss.com. Their website is basically a copy of the MidwayUSA.com, but at the time they might have actually sold about 1 millionth of the various merchandise MidwayUSA sells.

In particular, at the the time I ordered, I don't remember seing any reloading components for sale. And believe me, I looked pretty hard.

Still I found some stuff to order, so order I did. Then I waited, and waited, and waited... In fact, I had pretty much forgotten about my order, when suddenly one fine day, in the door pops a box from MidwaySwiss. All items ordered were there, plus a bill - because at the time, they did not accept credit cards on their website. Getting stuff sent with a bill, is a regular way of doing mail-order business here in Switzerland.

Since then, I have not ordered from them. Maybe I should check them out again, and see how they are faring. We badly need all the suppliers we can get here in Switzerland, in particular if they would start selling reloaing components. So I wish them all the luck, and can guarantee a certain percentage of my business, provided they sell some stuff i need...

- mike

P.S. Just checked out MidwaySwiss.com, and it sure looks a lot better now. It actually lookslike they may have some reloading supplies for sale. GREAT!!

P.P.S. Having shopped a while, I can say selection is actually exceptionally good for Switzerland. Prices are obviously higher than in the US, but that is to be expected. If I finally manage to order something (my first attempt failed due to some webpage error), they'll have a customer for life.

I order most of my reloading components from a German company. You will need to pay in advance and they deliver mostly within a couple of weeks. Their website www.wiederlade-service.de is not very user-friendly but their prices are. The 243 85 grain TSX is priced at € 32.50 per 50.
You can also take a look at
www.johannsen-jagd.de but I have no experiences with this company.
