Hi FB,
That is one beautiful piece of wood!!!!! As you know I am a new member of the 200/202 club and am looking forward to receiving mine. I am also a fan of quality wood and your rifle would certainly look nice in my collection . I have a couple of the older Sauers that I am fond of, 1 cape gun and one drilling, but neither one has wood a nice as yours. I believe that your rifle may qualify you for the OOOH AAAH club Take care and God bless.

Thanks Cordell,

I have sent you a PM with the info you wanted on the barrel. It might be worth doing but there is not a lot in it.

have a look at the details and let me know if it suits. I'll put you in touch with the guys and you can get it lined up.

BTW, You might need to join the queue of people that are angling for that rifle to be donated to their collections!!! She shot here first deer last week so it is now officially tried and tested!!!

Regards,
FB

Nice gun mate!
Are you planning on getting other barrels in the future?
BTW is it easier to get permission for new barrels on the same action?

Hey Fella,

I've been toying with the idea of more barrels but have had to stop myself!! After all I have a rifle now that will shoot everything in europe pretty much bar a couple of exceptions. And the reason for getting it was for the plains game and that will be covered too.

I was going to tade inthe 243 and get a fluted 243 for it to save space in the cabinet. That plan went out of the window since I decided on the pair of 20's , so I need a bigger cabinet anyway, and can't justify the Expense.

I think the next barrel will be the light weight 9.3x62 for the buff hunt in a couple of years if I save the pennies.

The realisation came to me when I realised how much I had spent on fishing rods/reels/kit in the last two years and have yet to catch a salmon!!!

As for the permission, I don't think it makes a difference to the coppers, as it all comes under the same variation and is classed as a second Firearm. It is very handy when traveling though as you save a lot of weight.

regards,
FB

Hi FB,
Your PM hasn't been posted yet but I will keep my eye out for it. Listen didn't you just say you were going to save your pennies for the 2006 Buff hunt, and here you go buying guns What type of 20's did you get? and exactly how do I get on the 202 donation list . Take care and God bless. P.S. She sure is pretty, what kind of groups are you getting with her? C

Hi cordell,

I'm quite lucky on the gun side of things as I get very good prices on them through my friend. Hence the good price he quoted you on the barrell. Let me know if you don't get the PM.

I'm selling my current Grade5 browning 425 and getting the Beretta 687EELL diamond pigeon. I've had the browning for 4-5 years and won't lose anything on it so I can't grumble. Still not sure if I can justify a pair as I dpon't actually double gun!!!

As for the Buff hunt, that will likely be 2007 atthe earliest as my girlfriend wants to go see some friends in New Zealand. One of which happens to live on a shooting ranch somwhere!!!

In the words of Hannibal from the A-Team, " I Love I tWhen A Plan Comes Together!!!"

Besides you know what they say about the best laid plans and all that... I may end up using the Browning into my dotage!!

Take care,
FB

Congratulations Fallow deer, a very nice rifle, outstanding wood.

Sauer 202 ! Congratulations, I bet you'll soon find out it's the best and most accurate out-of-the-box rifle you ever bought. I acquired mine, a 7x64, in '95 and it's been my favourite deer rifle ever since.

Sauer 200 7x64 is my usual deer rifle, even if I am fond of my Sauer 202 300WM/375HH.
IMHO Sauer 202 is among the best choices one can make. She is giving me more assurance than any of my other rifles.

Fallow Buck,

PS : keep the wrench provided by Sauer at hand. The forehand is apt to set itself free at the worst moment, or loctite it.

Will do Cordell.

Jib,

I have had some issues with the fore end because I was tightening it too much and the right hand side would randomly touch the barrel. The result was some terible grouping. I have since fixed the problem and it seems fine.

Hey Cordell,

For the caliber choices take the link I posted and go to the bottom of the page and hit the Specifications link in the bottom right hand corner of the page. There will be a list of calibers where it takes you.

Hi FB,

"I think the next barrel will be the light weight 9.3x62 for the buff hunt in a couple of years if I save the pennies."
Do You imagine I am using my 375HH barrel all year long? If need be I can send You the barrel either to UK (it has to be smuggled, I think) or to your hunting destination. When the work would be done just send it back. This will spare You enough money to buy some others nice toys.
This is Accurate reloading in action. JB

Hi FB,
Check your owners manual. The fellow just sent me mine along with the 2 take down tools and it tells me we are going to have to change the forearm for the 9.3X62 barrel. WHEW is this getting expensive or is it just my imagination Please let me know what yours says. Take care and God bless.

Your 202 is indeed very pretty, I had a lovely Mauser 66DL in .270win that also had very nicely figured wood until I took it to our forest in the rain, the snow and everything else mother nature throws at us while we are our enjoying our chosen sport. After two years it looked a mess, despite my tlc. I now have fibreglass or composite stocks exclusively on my rifles, they are more robust, hold their accuracy better than wood (i'm not counting laminate here) and after all a rifle is just a tool to do a job. I don't really care what they look like so long as they are accurate and remain so. I'm not being negative - just practical.

Hey Cordel,

i haven't had a chance to check but I'll try to remember to have a look over the weekend. I'm in the gun shop tomorrow to pick up some shells so I'll ask there too as he will have a better idea than me!!

Andy, I agree that the synthetic option is a lot more practical and I use it for the more "tool like" rifles and shotguns I own. So much easier to clean and maintain.

Hi FB,
I have already contacted Sauer and been informed that due to the larger barrel size it is mandatory . Can you also get a price from your friend for the forearm and send me a PM? I took the 200 to the range and it did exceptional. All groups except the last ( 2" spread my fault)were under an inch. I intend to head back up to the range on monday and do a little more from the bench and then start using a shooting stick, and shooting from a standing position. I am not looking forward to the later as I know I am going to have a heck of a spread initially. Check out the cased Rigby rifle at Holt's December auction (on this forum)it is estimated at between 800 and 1200 quid!!!! Take care and God bless.
Andy,
I also agree that it is practical, and I also have some "tools" in the safe, however I admire a beautiful piece of wood. The way I figure it if you scratch up a piece of beautiful wood it's still a beautiful piece of wood with some scratches however when you scratch up something that is already unatractive well you get the picture. This of course is my humble opinion, and I guess that's why they make chocolate and vanilla . As far as accuracy goes that could take another forum all by itself Take care and God bless you and yours.
