Went out on an early season squirrel shoot yesterday afternoon. It was in the high 50's to low 60's here so there were a few squirrels out catching some sun. Most of our shooting was at 250 - 500 yards and quite a few caught some lead along with the sunshine. We probably shot about 80-100 rounds and jumped one coyote but it was concentrating on getting out of the county.

Here's my brother suffering through the bitter cold of a Bakersfield, California winter. He was using a 223 click-clack and I had my Savage bolt gun in 22.250

Here's a picture of one squirrel that I got at a little over 300 yards.

Here's the picture of the country we were shooting in. This was taken from the dead squirrel's point of view back to my truck on the hill.

That's the short grass right before the rains come. If we get a normal rainfall in the next couple of months the grass here will be 18" tall. This is a beef cattle ranch but we only get about 5.5 inches (12 centimeters) of rain here all year and all the rain comes from December through March.

I wouldn't post pictures of it if it was illegal. Big Grin

It has a non-detachable magazine which makes it legal to run with a pistol grip here in California.

Fjold: I am happy you guys got out on such a nice winters day!
Its 12 degrees here in SW Montana as I write this (9:42 A.M.!). It is supposed to snow tonight 1"!
I guess thats one good thing about California - mild winters.
Keep up the good work - but leave some for "seed"!
Great photo's by the way - thanks for sharing!

It must be a hassel to load it. I bought a Colt AR-15 at last minute back in 92 so mine I can still have detachable magazines. Some times I'm tempted to sell it,can't get what its worth out side of state. It all sucks except the rifle

It's not bad you just pull the rear pin, tilt the upper up and load the magazine through the top.

If you don't have a pistol grip, collapsible stock, forward vertical grip, flashhider or grenade launcher you can run with a detachable magazine.
