Heading out on first Pdog shoot
Heading out on first Pdog shoot
Well, we head out Wed to Co for our very first pdog shoot. Got 500 rounds of 223, 300 rounds of 22-250, and 200 rounds of 6mmbr. I can't wait. We're taking a camera and video camera to capture the memories.
Here is a list of things I'm taking, if I left anything off, let me know
long sleeve shirts
long pants
sunscreen
bug spray
thermacell
lots of water and food
extra cooler for the ammo
cleaning supplies
gps
The guide we're using has the tables, rests, optics, rangefinders, etc.

A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him "Why do you carry a 45?" The Ranger responded, "Because they don't make a 46."

I think I know where you're going and who you're going with

. I would add to your list something to cover the back of your neck (I got it bad last year). Also got my forehead pretty good so a hat with a wide brim might be a good idea.

Anybody ever use one of those pop-up style canopy? I didn't know if the wind would be too bad, but it would be great for keeping the sun out.
I have shot them close to 20 years and never put any ammo in a cooler. The therma cell and bug repellenant might be a duplication. I always use a lot of repellant around PD towns.

rjrobbI've used a 8x8 easyup shelter once. It's usually more trouble than it's worth to put it up, as the wind always blows across the PD fields. I used 1/4" rebar stakes, about 12" long to hold it in place. Even then, the windward side kept working it's way out.

StonecreekBe a considerate and conservation-minded hunter: Practice shoot and release. Remove no prairie dog from its natural habitat. Whatever their condition, leave as many dogs behind as you found when you arrived.

If you need this, you won't be shoooting any dogs.

It was a blast. The dogs were skittish in many places, very few shots under 250 yds. Had some very windy weather all 3 days with rain moving in the last afternoon.
The pups were up and most dogs were hanging out around 400 yds. I did confirm a kill at 493 and 480 yds one morning and that was the only time I went out to survey the damage.
I did learn that mil-dot scopes are more useful than turning knobs for elevation and windage.
I plan on going back next year, need to start loading now....
