Lost another ranch to the plague. Have shot lots of dogs on that ranch foreman said don't bother none left. Took a ride by and not a dog in site. Had only fair shooting on the other ones. Very hot 100 plus each day. Had some good shooting early. But did make a couple of fine long shoots. Had fun any way.

Even when it's bad, it is still fun. At the cost of components I am kind of welcoming the slow down. Gives me a chance to build up the powder, bullets and primers. The son and I are heading back out in a couple of weeks to do some scouting and do some free work for the rancher. I don't think my son has ever been on a horse. Should be interesting. Amost forgot, taking out my 22/6mm to shoot at long distances. We can shoot off the ranchers deck up to ???? There is only about 10,000 acres so I don't think I will have to worry about shooting into another ranch. Jim Please be an ethical PD hunter, always practice shoot and release!! I just got done with a little dog shoot today. Temp cracked 112 with a hot blowing wind. It almost wasn't fun. What area do you do your shoots?

Theres a salve that Professional Bicyclists use that will stop the chaffing you and your son WILL experience while on horse back. Nothing like a hot sweaty day to rub you raw. A pistol with snake loads is an excellent choice also. Preferably a 45 cal single action. Don't try to look Hoppy, Gene or Roy either. As you probably noticed in Montana and the Dakotas we have three seasons July, August and Winter. Carry lots of water. But the guy your working for or with will clue you in. Earlier this week some of the temps in cow country were approaching 120°. Have a good safe trip. Best wishes, Bill

Thanks Bill, The horse and I will get along fine, it's my son and the horse that might not see eye to eye. As the saying goes around most ranches out there,"it's survival of the fitest". I have other offspring that are still of breeding age that can make up for the loss. My concern is with the horse. Those damn things are expensive. No snakes in that area so that is not a concern and the only salve I will allow him to use is in a can or a brown bottle. He can apply it topically or internally, that will be his choice, but I will not allow whining. (We will likely be hauling hay on a flatbed, but don't tell him that, he thinks he will be on a horse all day.) Jim Please be an ethical PD hunter, always practice shoot and release!!
