Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a 22 centerfire rifle and found a new (old version) Rem 700 synthetic w/24" barrel with J lock on sale for $539.

The new 700 SS fluted barrel model runs around $1050 for a 220 Swift. The fluted barrel seems to handle better, but costs twice as much as the old model 22-250.

Comments, ideas. Would anyone buy this gun. Anyone ream it out to a 22-6mm?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I would rather ream it to a 22/243 due to the short magazine length. Not having to seat the bullets so deep, there would be very little difference in actual case capacity or performance.

Snapper,

It is my understanding most of the 22-6mm/243 use a 1-8 twist barrel so they can shoot the longer, high BC bullets. I don't think the Rem 22-250 will have a twist that will stabilize the longer bullets so you wouldn't be gaining much.

Well, I have a 22.250 with a one in 8 twist!

A nice thing to rebarrel one too...

Also for those that are into the 22/6mm Rem, if you have a short action that was a 22.250, if you make a 22/243 Middlestead instead ( is there an echo in here??)... you will end up pretty much with the same velocity in a shorter package.... if you Ackley improve the shoulder on the 22.243, you have the capacity of the 6mm Case...

of course 22.284 is also an option, especially if you like frying barrels in a short time....

I was thinking about going to a 22/243 Middlestead and shooting 55 grain bullets because of the long twist.

Thanks!

that old 22-250 or the new 220 swift will still have the wrong twist,1-12 or1-14, you'd need too re-barrel with a fast 1-7 or 1-8 twist, then you could shot 75 grain v-maxs or 77 grain sierras or 80 grain sierra's,you'll gain nothing by keeping the old twist even if you re-chamber it to 22-243, to me thats a waste of money, regards jjmp
