i was looking at the ruger web site last night and ended up reading close to 20+web pages on this caliber to learn as much as possible about the caliber

i think its kinda neet and think it will take of like the little 17 hmr

i am going to do a little more research and will probably end up ordering 1 i do more ground hog hunting than anything else when it comes to going out for varmints so this little fella should work just nice.

I have a Tactical .20 (wildcat .20 based on an improved .223) it is the ballistic twin of the .204 (based on .222 Mag improved). I push a 33 grain Hornady V-Max at 4,250ish it is extremely accurate as are most of the .20 wildcats being used today (custom rifles). Big bonus is that recoil doesn't take you off target, you see the hits. Do the visual on a gopher, hit with a 33 grain V-Max at 3,900fps retained velocity and observed closely in a 20X scope. We shot some gophers in the spring snow the other day, "REAL COLORFUL".

When gopher and p-dog smuckers the world over get their hands on an accurate rifle in .204 Ruger their little eyes will light right up, you can quote me on that.

As to the reception this round will have feature this, the .204 is a propriatary round developed in conjunction with Ruger and Hornady, The rifles hadn't even hit the shelves yet and already Remington anounced at the shot show they would chamber a rifle for it. That's almost unheard of in the industry! Those boys have big egos and tipping your hat to a competitors idea especially a propriatary round is a tough thing for em to swallow. The only thing that will cause em to do it is the knowledge there's money in it. CZ is also making a rifle and a buddy and I have already placed orders and stocked up on Triple Duce Mag brass. A word to the planners out there, Hornady says it'll be 2005 before they get production down to the point they can deliver .204 brass to reloaders. .222 Mag brass is about to get real scarce! Another advantage to forming your own out of .22 cal cases is it thickens the neck (be sure to meassure) and allows you a semi tight custom neck rifle for cheap. I'm looking forward to wringing the .204 out against the Tactical .20.

In advance I'll say to the nay sayers who've never shot this round but are going to bring up all it's bad points anyway (Yawn!), "No" this isn't the end all everything round that'll do everything better than every existing round out there, but if you get an accurate rifle in this caliber do a little careful reloading and can't have a bushel of laughs with it your probably the same guy that says "Britney Spears probably can't cook besides she's to skinny, think I'll pass" when offered an evening with her. As you can probably tell, I'm pro .20 (and .17 but that's another topic.)

Sorry to get so windy, I guess coffee works when your typing as well as talking.

Dittos, montdoug! I guess all the things I had to say about the 17HMR turned out to be true! I don't hear much from the naysayers now! And this one will make it also! Too many big names jumping into the mix for it to fail! Ruger, Hornady, Remington, CZ, Savage, the list I am aware of so far!!! I've already gotten loaded ammo waiting for the rifles to get here! And I've got a supply of 222Mag brass! It won't be a simple "neck it down and it's done job" to form 204 from 222MAG. It will have to be fireformed much the same as making the AI cases! GHD
