Does anyone have an opinion on the new digital varmit callers with a remote. I was thinking of the fox-pro or the loudmouth or the western rivers predation model. Thanks

Does anyone have an opinion on how well the Fox-Pro works compared to other electronic calls and mouth calls?

Hi there all the varmint hunters,

I entertained two friends from the USA during the past weekend with varmint hunting. Although the moon wasn't perfect we still decided to try our luck.

When we arrived at our first calling spot we determined the wind direction and turned the vehicle to facilitate the shooting.

Sadly, I found that, although I have checket it twice, the electronic equipment was unserviceble. Now then, sitting as a qualified and experience professional hunter in South Africa, ready with two friends from the USA, to shoot Black Backed Jackal and Caracal, and the equipment is not working?!!? The worst feeling that any hunter can experience.

Luckely I am always prepared for situations and I hauled out my Critt'r caller that I ordered from Major John Boddiker.

Well, we had a fabulous evening and we did call in Jackal and one African Wild cat.

Lesson learnt. Electronic equipmemnt is handy and produces the real thing but, one should always have your back up in one or other sort of whisstle. I am a Sceary and Critt'r fan.

What other calling equipmet do you use in the USA for calling.

Regards

Wilhelm Greeff

Think I used them all, JS, Burnham, Phantom and Foxpro. If I could have only one it would be the Foxpro.

I got a Preymaster last spring. It's a digital caller with a wire to the speaker. So far in about 30 tries not one wild critter has come!

I was using it with various calls from a vantage point where I can see from 1000 down to 500 yds in various directions. Of course nothing came.

Then some turkeys walked out of the woods and were feeding across a field. I blew the the turkey distress call and they stopped and looked at me but could not see me as I had cammo on including a mask and was 600 yds away.

The turkeys only paused a moment and when the call stopped after a minute they resumed feeding.

Then a coyote came out of the woods and began to stalk the turkeys. This coyote never responded to the various distressed rabbit calls etc before but who knows where it was or if it could have heard them.

The coyote somehow came up to 400 yds and got hit with a 50 gr bullet from my Swift.

My cat did come into the basement when I blew the distressed cat call but this only fooled her once. She won't come to it again.

In summary I still carry this device around as I like to listen to it but I have no other use for it when I have a bipod on the rifle. Otherwise the case is a good rest for prone. I may try a portable radio. Maybe the music will attract some pest.

Everything that I get I get the old way except that the laser rangefinder does make it more of a rifle game and I like that a lot.

Make your own. Use your imagination. Be original. a MP3 player; CD player; etc. Build an amp and a 900MHz remote speaker kit. Your home computer will be the motherstation. One of my friends drives his speakers from digital files on his lap top while in the field. Get an old remote control plane radio and rig up stuff with a decoy. shaker on or off; turn it; etc. Dream it up, make it, test it out. None of this is tough to do.
