Hello, I am looking for a place to Rock Chuck hunt in the Treasure Valley, Idaho. I know there are a lot of these in Southern Idaho but I have yet to see any where I live. Does anyone on here from Idaho, more specifically the Boise area know of any good places to hunt Rock Chucks?

Is the immediate Boise area at the right elevation for whistle pigs? roger Old age is a high price to pay for maturity!!! Some never pay and some pay and never reap the reward. Wisdom comes with age! Sometimes age comes alone..

You will be hard pressed to find a great rock chuck area close to Boise other than the golf courses!!!! Best bet is around Twin Falls to Burley area where you find the combination of water, pasture and rocks. I hunt down in that area every spring and find access easy to get and actually have had farmers come up to us and ask us to come to their fields after they have seen us set up and shooting in other places. Usually we have a 20-30 chuck day and need a couple of rifles to keep the barrels from overheating. If the distance is close say up to 60-70 yards we are using tricked out 10/22's and varmint rigs for the other work out to around 375-400 yards. Pray for a calm sunny day and you should have a good shoot. Good luck.

Bartsche - yes, we have thousands of whistlepigs, just getting tired of shooting them. The grass is starting to get so tall it's tough to see them anyway. Teancum - I am from the Twin Falls area. It's just a long drive, in my opinion, from Boise to hunt them. Was hoping to find some nearby Boise. I may have to head down to Twin Falls area now! Sounds like you've had some great success.

I would try along the Snake river south of Boise. Look along the rock piles and ledges for the lazy buggers. Good luck.

Just got back from a rock chuck hunt in the Twin Falls area and it was a blast. Started out at 10:00am and my buddy, who lives down there had some places lined up for us to hunt. It was during a hot spell so by about 2-3:00pm they would go down until about 7:00 that night. We had a table set up with bench rests, comfortable chairs, a 60X spotting scope and each of us had a couple of shooters. I was using a .223 and a 22-250 while my buddy had a .204 and 22-250. We had a rock pile at about 275-400 yards in front of us at an angle and once we got the wind figured out it was a great shoot. I ended up with 21 and my buddy had 24 that day. The next day we went to a new place and asked for permission and when we told the lady what we were hunting she said to come back when we were done as her husband had a couple more fields we could hunt on. Those rockchucks to eat a ton of alfalfa and the new corn plants. This was later in the year than normal due to weather and other commitments and the chucks all looked like they would make book that we shot. Second day totals were a little higher with 26 and 23 this time and topped off by a great roast beef dinner at the local greasy spoon.
