There is no special care I know specially for stainless barrels. Other than good cleanings and they aren't much different than chrome moly barrels. If you install a comp on your barrel and shoot moly coated bullets. There will be a blue green residue on you comp. It is really noticable on stainless barrels compared to blued. Beware not to leave strong solvents in your barrel like Sweets 7.62. Good solvent just don't really know what the long term affects there will be on the metal.

Hey hunter_fish, Good question.

Treat your Stainless barrels just as you would a Blue barrel. The Stainless allows a bit more time afield in high humidity or rain, but it still needs to be cared for, or it will also rust.

And, I agree with Deaddog's post about just following the directions on the "specific" Bore Cleaner you choose to use. The people that manufacture them certainly want whatever you choose to work well for you so you will buy more. So just do what they recommend. That said, some Bore Cleaners are better than others.

As far as the outside of the Stainless(or Blue) firearm, I like to remove the stock(s) and coat all surfaces with a "thin" coat of grease. I used "RIG" for years and it works fine. And recently I've used Shooter's Choice Synthetic Grease which also works fine.

Do this on a hot, sunny day and set the greased firearm out in the sun. Rotate it occasionally and you will notice the grease is actually being absorbed into the steel, which is what we want.

If it all soaks in, repeat greasing it until it won't take anymore. Then wipe it down and it will be in pretty good shape for a year. Of course, clean it anytime it gets wet and it will last you a very long time.

By the way, never let blood set on Stainless or Blue. It will etch right into the metal. Get it off as soon as you notice it.

A SS barrel will scratch easier than a CM barrel so make sure you keep your 1 piece cleaning rod clean while cleaning the barrel, and never use any thing but "brass" brushes-- no ss ones.
