I was in a store today and saw two new offerings, ( at least I had never seen them before) in Rimfire Mag ammo...

One was in 22 Mag, from CCI/Speer. They are now offering a 30 grain TNT HP.. it had a large HP in it, and guess it is to compliment the 30 grain V Max that is also being offered.. I tried the V Max in my Rugers and my Marlins, and it shot substantially better than any other 22 Mag ammo I had ever used... the TNT load should do the same... plus I am a big fan of the TNT HPs... they are very explosive...

The second one was a 20 grain FMJ on the 17 HMR... this will really step up performance on the 17 HMR when used to take down larger pests and varmints with good shot placement.

I am sure it will drop a coyote much better and also be easier on the pelts. I can see this round doing some serious damage on a head shot on about ANYTHING...

I was also contemplating what an upgrade both rounds would be for those firearms to be used in a home defense situtation...

Personally I think both of these bullet offereings will substantially upgrade performance of both rounds.. especially in say home defense...( Poachers will probably like them also.. although I am sure that doesn't include any forum members here!)

With ammo and components getting scarce right now, one can still find a lot of 22 Mag and 17 HMR ammo on the shelves... from just ammo availability, I am thinking both myself and a lot of others may end up relying on these rounds more than we had ever thought of...

Especially if I had to, I could feed my family with both of these rounds, and especially these new bullet offerings....

so no one tell anyone else, but it might not hurt to slowly and stealthily start stocking up on some boxes of these also...

Seafire, it is really amazing what some of the new 22Mag ammo can do, in both performance and accuracy.

Saw the 17 FMJ today but I was in the store with my brother he was gettin 22's. Man did 22 shells prices go up. Cheapest brick was almost 18 bucks, I havent bought a box of 22's for atleast 4 years. I usually shoot the hornadys V-max in my 17, but when it comes time for a few boxes I mught give the FMJ's a try.

Hmmm,

I may have to try some of those 17 fmj's for head shooting rabbits and squirrels (when season comes around again). Hopefully a little less explosive if I pull the shot a bit.

Anyone have a range report on the 17 fmj's yet?

My Contender carbine barrel really loves those Hornady vmaxes.

Those 30gr TNT 22mag rounds have been around for 2yrs, maybe more. I bought my first box in the middle of 2007. They were devastating on rabbits, clay blocks, water turtles(damn redears), coyotes(here comes the hate mail). I even shot a feral hog with one...extremely close I might add--less than 2 feet.

They are not cheap though!!
