is any one shooting a fast twist in a 22-250? been thinking about doing a re barreling and trying the 75 gr. a max's or 80 gr. sierra's at long distances. is there any data available on b.c on these two bullets?

I too think about trying a fast twist 22-250, but so far I have resisted.

In regard to the B.C.'s of those bullets:
Hornady #22792 75 grain A-Max = 0.435
Sierra 80 grain HP Match King = 0.420

If you build one of these rifles, let us know how it works out.

The Berger 80 grain beats the heck out of either of the ones mentioned with a BC of .49

My 22 isn't a 22-250--its a 22-6mm with an 8 twist and it really loves the 75 grain AMAX's @ 3500 fps...haven't tried the Bergers yet. I think you'll like the fast twist and heavy bullets.

Good Hunting,

Had one built 2years ago on a Ruger action,Shilen 27" 1/8 twist, throated for 75Amax.It is a big improvment over the 55g as it bucks the wind a lot better. Was advised by a couple of smiths to stay with standard 22-250 & 1/9 twist but already had the 1/8 barrel. The Amax startes to come apart somewhere between 3500-3600 depending on how clean the barrel is(This one fouls fast with 36.5grains of H414 & CCI magnum primer,Gota clean every 35 rounds)=CJ -

Good? yes it is @ 100yards(Will have to see when stock is done what it does longrange on paper). It is also the only time this gun has ben on paper, these groups where shot shooting in the barrel & load prep.
Have added too many new projects the last couple of years so load development is what you see ,H414 - 1 grain for the heat. The only range time it has gotten is pding(750 rounds total). It has ben down most of this year waiting for me to get the new stock finished to help with the tendency to drift as it heats up=CJ

These groups are from my 22-250 for 5 shots at 200 yards. It has a Clerke 28.5" 1/7 twist barrel on a 722 action and a reclaimed 40X stock that had been pillar bedded, Canjar set trigger, Tasco World Class Plus 8-32X40 scope . The wind was 10-15mph 90 degrees to the target. I was amazed at the wind bucking ability of the A-Max 75gr Bullet. Email me and I will send you the pictures since I couldn't get them to attach to this response.

I shoot the 22-250 AI with a 27" lg. 1-8 twist barrel. The Berger 80 grain VLD's have a BC of .49 (identical to the 175 grain 30 cal Matchking). They go at 3200 to 3300 fps, depending on ambient temperature. This puts them ahead of a 300 Win. Mag shooting 175 grain Matchkings for both bullet drop and wind drift.
I shot mine with excellent results in a 1000 yard match. It was my first 1000 yard match, first match for the rifle, and only the second center fire match I had ever competed in. The wind was switching from 12 oclock to about 3 or 4 oclock and gusting from 15 to 30 mph. It took me most of the first 20 shot relay to get on paper, so that one wasn't much but the second relay I got a 193 out of 200 possible, which means 13 of my shots were in a circle less than 20" dia. at 1000 yards. Even with the poor 163 score of my first relay I did well because I cleaned the 600 with two perfect 200 point relays. Ended up winning the overall cause everybody was blown around so badly by the wind.
Since then I am convinced that the fast twist 22's are a viable alternative against anything that is 30 cal. or smaller for shooting paper and varmints.

You have to list the 300 Win Mag as well, unless they actually are exactly the same. I didn't use any software, I just compared bullet BC's and muzzle velocity.
