Hey - I have read a few issues of Predator Xtreme and its ok but not really what I am looking for. I was wondering if anyothers knew of a quality varmint/predator hunting magazine?

I would like something on the quality of Rifle, Handloader but that may not be the case.

Basicaly I want something that has more meat to the articles - tech that actaully has some, calling stories, -- the usuall - like any other big game magazine.

Thanks

The VHA has a good magazine. A lot of the articles are written by the members of the VHA and can be useful. It is not as polished as Handloader or Rifle, but you can glean info from the stories that gives you a decent idea of what it is like to hunt in various areas.
The magazine is not cheap at $8.00 an issue when bought over the counter. I subscribed for several years and thought that I got my money's worth.

Don't forget "Fur Fish and Game" magazine. A yearly subscription is around $25 (give or take). They have two sections that I especially enjoy... Game Calling and The Gun Rack. They also have Fur Market Report which gives you a monthly assessment of the world furmarket and fur prices which you can expect to get for all furbearers.

They also have many articles on big game hunting, fishing, trapping, wilderness living, mushrooms gathering, etc.

I think FF&G gives the best bang for the buck. But it is rare to see it on a news stand!! Go figure!!

VHA is the one!!!! Only comes 4 times a year, BUT it's what we're looking for!!!! The writers aren't getting paid mega-bucks for writing drivel! The stories and text come from people doing it for fun, not bucks!!!!!! If you send me a Browning Micro-Hunter in 22Hornet, I would feel obliged to give it a thorough shakedown!!! I'll also tell you why I don't like it!!!! I won't sell many ST, G&A, OL, Rifleman, Reloader, or other mags if I don't give it a "favorable revue"!!!! VH is not like that!!! You ever see any ads wanting to sell back issues of the others mentioned? NO!!! But the VHA magazine is in demand!!! PRECISION SHOOTING magazine used to be the big dog!!! Up until about 1992-92 when it got overtaken by the absolute brainy, mathmatical wizards, 50BMG crowd!!!! Now it's a "techno- wizard"publication!!! How I wish someone would offer me a job writing shooting stuff!!!!! Won't happen!!! Too much like selling used cars!!!! I'm too honest!!! GHD
