I would appreciate if you guys would like to give me your opinions on which varmint rifle I should choose; the Remington 700 VS SF in .22-250 or the Sako 75 Varmint in .222 Rem. The price is the same for both of the rifles (approximately 1100USD) and the intended quarry is crow, fox and roe deer. Also consider factors as future ammo availability and possibilities to rebarrel it to a long range big game cartridge (i.e. .300 WSM).
The Sako factor .22 PPC rifles routinely shoot 1/4 groups out of the box. I'd look for one of those. Nothing wrong with the .222 Rem----except anemic velocity relative to the bigger .22s.
Kalle. You just load a 220Russian case (the best case ever made) with whatever bullet of .224 caliber and fireform it in the chamber. There you got a perfect 22PPC case. The brass aint cheap, but its available and of superb quality. AKI
Kalle, Sako: There is no subsitute! especially when compared to Remington, Ruger, Winchester, etc. Don't get me wrong, there are rifles equal to or better than Sako,e.g., Kimber, Cooper,or the like, but Reminigton definitely is not one of them. You dont' have to look close to notice the difference in quality of workmanship. The only negative I see with the new Sakos are their stocks: the injection molded synthetic is comparable to a Remington, Winchester, Ruger, Weatherby, etc.; the wood lacks much figure. Also, a Sako's resale value will always be much higher.

Guys, Not trying to be a know it all but you can also make 22ppc cases out of 7.62x39 cases but there is also a little more work to it than with the 220 russian. But tha 7.62's are easier to find.

Norma and Lapua make the 220 brass and Sako make Sako 22PPC (and 6mmPPC) brass. The brass is readily available from most of the mail order suppliers. Try Bruno Shooters Supply for Lapua 220 @ $0.44/case [www.brunoshooters.com]. Lapua is supposed to be the best at the moment.
I have a rem 700 vssf in 22/250 with leupold 6.5-20x40. It shoots great with win supreme 50 gr silver ballistic tips. I like it but I like cz rifles better and if I had my time again I would buy a cz heavy barrelled 22/250 (if they make one ??)

Kalle, Like I said before there is a little work envolved. I haven't made any in about 2 years but a good friend of mine just made a 100 cases I want to talk to him and get all the measurements of the cases and the measurements of the dies you will need. I used all of his stuff to make the ones that I made. I do know that you should use Remington Brass because they still use the small rifle primers. You are gonna need a couple of different sizing dies that you will have to have cut down. (243win and 270win) Or you can buy the forming die but is really expensive. I will let you know when I get everything.

I was shooting at the rifle range yesterday with a fellow who has a VSSF in 22/250, and a Sako 75 Varmint (stainless laminated) in 223. He bought the Remington as he was unable to find a 75, and of course, the second he took delivery, up pops a Sako. He grabbed that too.
He said he was planning on selling the Remington...
